Well, I just bought a 1986 Mercury Marquis Wagon. Pretty nice shape, no dents, paints a little dead but I think it will clean up, no rust, great interior, 302/auto, and that stupid woodgrain. Any ideas on what I can do to make it a bit nicer? I'm thinking about a set of buckets, a nice tune up, and some wheels and tires. Probably something in the 16" range.
Anyone know what wheels will fit an '86 Grand Marquis? I'm looking for some sort of OEM take-off to keep the $$$ on the small side. 5-bolt Mustangs maybe?

Since this car is a wagon, does it have the normal Ford 5x4 1/2 bolt pattern or the Lincoln 5x5? My guess is the 5x4 1/2.
This makes a big difference in anything we could suggest.

Hmmm... may have to wait 'till it gets here then. It doesn't seem to have any sort of heavy duty suspension, or towing package, but I don't know the pattern. As soon as I get the car here (I HAVE seen this one, nice!) I'll measure it.
Thanks!

It will be 5 on 4-1/2" pattern. The wheels on the 79 - 02 "Panther" chassis cars are pretty much zero offset, but they will accept some with a bit of positive offset. I have seen SN95 Mustang (94-04) wheels bolted on a 90s Crown Vic or Grand Marquis, and they seemed to fit OK.
Many of the full size Fords, Mercs, and Lincolns from the 90s had nice OEM 16" wheels too. Perhaps you can come up with a good deal on a set of those.

Might be hard to find, but what about a set of takeoffs from an '03-'04 Mercury Marauder? I believe they were 18's?

I dont think buckets would suit it, but a bit of lowering and some nice wheels would look very good. I dont know, your style might be different to mine.
wat do those years look like ?Boxy shaped??

The 03 and newer full-size Fords, Mercs, and Lincolns had heavily revised suspension and brakes that use high-positive offset wheels. The Marauder wheels are 18x8", with +50 offset. They need 1-1/2" to 1-3/4" spacers to bolt on to a 79 - 02 full size car.

I am pretty sure that late SN-95 Mustang GT's came stock with 17's. There is one design with 5 split spokes and a machined face that looks really sharp. The Mustang guys practically throwm them out because they all want cobra r wheels. Shouldnt be too hard to pick up a decent set off ebay. You will probably need taller tires than the stock mustang sizes though so I wouldnt bother looking for a set with tires included.

The buckets would be more for function than for looks. My wife has multiple sclerosis, and has trouble with comfort/fatigue, especially on long trips. The adjustability of a nice bucket will really help here.

Good to know, thanks!
I was looking at the "bullit" style maybe. I also thought about, erm, you'll laugh... Cragars. Or maybe the A/R slots, both are available in 16". Something kind of funky retro to go with a big square wagon.
I'm such a geek! :geek:
