I'm pretty new to welding and this is my first panel replacement (trunk pan in this case), so please bear with me with a pretty basic question....

When doing your spot welds, how big of a hole do you typically drill in the "top" panel and how far apart do you typically make them ??

Thanks

I am by no means an expert and I'm sure others may disagree with me but I usually punch 1/8-1/4 in holes and space them about every 5 inches or so.

I usually drill 1/4" or 5/16" holes. As for the spacing, usually about 6" apart.

I would recommend about 2"-3" apart. The closer they are the stonger they are. If you look inside a door jamb you'll see what I mean. There are more welds closer together around the striker and hinge areas than above and below them. Always use 5/16" holes That is what ICAR and manufacturers recommend.
