So this weekend I went to the SF Auto show and was talking with one of the GM guys about the new Camaro and was told that there would be "something pertaining to the new Camaro announced at Detroit and LA that would be VERY INTERESTING."

IMO it's probably a convertible which to me would not qualify as "VERY INTERESTING" but there might be something else.

Or that the production timeline has been moved up!!

A guy can hope.

Now THAT would qualify as "very interesting".

On a side note, I found some conflicting info from the Pontiac camp. If you recall there was a recent spate of articles in the auto mags regarding Poncho's move to all or nearly all rear wheel drive cars and plans to run the new Holden Monaro as the next-gen Grand Prix or GTO. The people at the Poncho display were either knuckleheads and didn't know about the plan, or it has been placed on the back-burner as they denied that the aforementioned was happening.

For some people that would be bad news =(

The IRS isn't going anywhere.. it's part of the platform that the car is being built on.

Also, 95% of the people out there arn't us and see an SRA as "dinosaur technology" and want an IRS for the ride benefit.

We can always do like the Cobra guys and swap in a solid axle.. lol

Now, what could that news be?... hmmmmm

I don't know how everybody else feels but if the new Camaro were to come out with a solid axle.....I'd be one pretty disappointed little boy.

Could that IRS really be weaker than the 7.5" in the 3rd & 4th gens? At least anecdotally, I hear the GTO rears take some abuse – at least more then the 7.5”.

Someone will quickly come up with a bolt in rear setup, no doubt.

Those auto show guys are salesmen with new haircuts and if you've ever talked tech with any salesman, they don't know ****!
I talked to a GM Brand Manager at SEMA and asked the same question and he looked at the ground and recited their canned speech about neither confirming or denying that rumor and then looked up and asked if that was convincing enough, then said "the future is bright" and smiled. You don't have to have a lie detector to figure out what that meant and I think he's right, the future is bright at all the OEs

Pretty much figured that.

The wierd thing is that the Chevy people were much more upfront and seemed to know more even though they couldn't divulge what they did know.

But in similar fashion to your experience, they Chevy folks were VERY positive about the next few years. One said, "In 4 years you won't see anything on a Chevy lot that looks like a Chevy today."

Maybe the unveiling will be a "body in white" program? A stripped sub 3000lb '09 Camaro and roughly 400-500hp on tap? That would be interesting.

....or if we are really dreaming.....

The directors of Ford, Chevy and DC got together with the SCCA, Tony George, Roger Penske and Paul Gentilozzi and found a way to reverse Tony, Roger and Paul's cranio-rectal inversion and are resurrecting the Trans-Am series.

Well I'd like to think it could happen. But then I'd like to think Santa could come down my chimney on Dec 25th with a 500hp LS2 in his bag.

Well, my official guees is that they will reveal something about trim levels that are planned. I really doubt there will be any change in the timing.

I was at the LA show and didn't hear anything new. The woman gave the same speel.

Nice looking car though. I like it better than the challenger.
