Anybody got any ideas for hood hinges that would be a little nicer than stock, but not as expensive as, say, the world-famous billet hinges? I've decided 600 bucks is just too much money that could be spent elsewhere...

Do you have to disassemble the hinges for that?

Yes, take the springs off the hinges and power them. When you get the springs back they will be "stuck" in the collapsed position, but this will break free when worked the first time.
Looks nice if you do the spings in a different color. Say black for the hinge and silver for the spring, or any combo you like.
