I wanted to put this in the Outhouse, but, it is about tires so..........

I was just curious about how y'all decide upon what tires to get on your daily drivers / family car.

I use the ol' TireRack website mainly cause I don't know no better.

There's 4 tires on there that I am considering for the Lexus. (all season stuff)

I currrently have the Pirelli PZero Nero's. Really really like them, but if you put much snow on the ground they (and the car) dont' do too well at all. Everything else is great about them.

There's some Bridgestone G009's, Avon Tech M550, and lastly, Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position. Pricing is all over the place at $160 (pirelli), $140, $116, $165.

I've read the TireRack comments and ratings. can't make a decision. :) Chronic problem of mine.

Any thoughts??

Hey BA as BFRS employee dont get me wrong as I wont brag on tires unless they actually perform.
The GOO9's (we call them goo nines) are awesome in there own right but you must adhear to alignment routines (that means you talk to thetech and get hem to set them to prefered specs not just inside the ranges allowed in factory specs as they are directional)and rotate religiously.
If you see adverse wear you should have them swapped side to side(not usually a problem on Lexus) to help liveability. I have seen only 4 cars and they were not well taken care of that actually required side to side swapping, but it is an option that most techs dont like to reccomend (tire work is beneath some techs).
The 960AS is an awesome addition to the RE line of Potenzas and I can not begin to bragg on Bridgestone quality reguardless of what some people will say.
I have worked for several tire companies and when I started at Firestone I was going in with no preconcieved notions as to the fitness of thier products. I did see how deplorable the SS10/SS20 Firehawk was in traction(ie reports of being "gut slick" ) but when I saw even our genric line tires coming up very straight and square , and then my goodyear RT/S went bad and I put on Firehawk Indy 500's and gained much confidence in my trucks handling AND after adding AIr Ride I never rebuilt my front end nore aligned it perfectly till this past January when I replaced all of the parts in it. And I drive 90 miles a day 5 or 6 days a week.
And now with (from proper Bridgestone/Firestone Retailer) the ProTect plan gives you 3 year free replacement instead of a prorated road hazzard plan.
Get me a zip and Ill try to put you intouch with someone local as tire Racks warranty sucks, we use them if we cant replace any off brand/size tire and then you have to wait.
Both work well ,,hey give me your year make and model and Ill see what kind of deal I could possibly work out with my boss.
Good luck
Lee

Kumho ECSTA ASX's maybe......I bought a set for my girlfriend and I was surprised at how well they performed! Granted, I didn't get that much seat time to really push them as my girlfriend told me that if I take another corner at 50 with her in the car there would be no more playing Hide the Salami!
