I'm not sure what the Blue Oval boys did but my 67 Camaro (and my dad's 66 Chevelle) have the VIN # riveted inside the driver's side door jam. I think Chevy switched to the dash in 68?

Ford typically put it in the door jam by the striker plate in that era.

There is a vin stamped on the DR side inner fender covered by the hood. It would look something like 7ANNANNNNNN (A indicationg and alpha character and N being numeric). I know the first number s/b 7 as it indicates model year. There is usually a small notch in the main fender in this area forward of the centerline of the fender looking at it from the side. In case it is not htere due to replacement, being clipped, etc., there is another one hidden on the pass side rear of the centerline covered by the pass fender. As staed above it should also bo on the door above the catch mechanism.

Let me know the vin and I can tell ya what it means. They stand as (1N) year, (1A) assembly plant, (2N) body code, (1A) engine code and (6N) assembly line order starting at 100,000.
