body work questions

well after i buy my dad a dan wesson .45 for xmas (i promised him LoL) im going to get started on the body work for my car. well anyways, when you weld any of the new quater panels and other parts in do you weld all the way down the seam then just grind down the welds ? and how would i know if any of my floor panels need replaced? they arnt rusted thru at all its mostly just surface rust. and how do i know what holes not to cover up since im doing a smooth fire wall.

In terms of the firewall I would think that you would just cover over the whole thing if your smoothing it and recut whatever hole you need!
