This question has been asked before but there was not a definative answer. Plus I have the book How to build high performance ls1.
according to the book changing the heads( GMP performance partS), cam (Ls6 02-04) and intake (ls 6) will get me at or close to 500HP. My question is this. If I'm running stock 243 casting ls6 heads and a differet cam and 90mm throtle body on fast intake will that get me close to 500HP. What are decent heads and com packages that are proven to work?

Are you talking about 500 at the crank or 500 at the wheels. Huge difference. Took me a lot to get to 500 at the wheels on all motor

There is no easy answer. Yes there are components that will produce your goals, but it all depends on what you want. For the most part the Fast 90/90 combo is overkill for a 346. Many people saw only a 10-15 HP increase after spending +$1000.

I suggest you spend a couple days (literally) worth of hours reading up in the "Dyno" section of ls1tech.com I know I have and I'm still uncertain what my plan is. It it was easy, every one would make that kind of power. Bottom line is everyone has a different idea of what is ok, a different approach, different budgets and resources available to them.

BTW, most people refer to RWHP over there, since they are having thier cars tested on chassis dynos.

Check out the latest issue of PHR. Rupp did an LS2 buildup with heads, intake and cam change. Pull 572 on the dyno.

well then if you want 500 at the crank this is what I had to have to get that which is about 440 at the wheels with a M6. I had to have jet-hot long tubes and y-pipe with no cats, aftermarket lid mine was an SLP, AFR 205 heads very expensive, fast 90/90, F13 cam from futral motorsports but a VERY GOOD streetable cam no surging whatsoever when tuned, and a exhaust cut out and magnaflow muffler, and a set of SVO #30 injectors.

I know that you probably didnt want to hear that it took all of that to make 500 at the crank on an LS1 but it does. Now there are different ways to go about it. It would be easier for an LS2 or you could stroke the LS1 to a 383 and it would be more responsive to mods. Because after I stroked mine and had all those mods I had 500 RWHP which is about 590 at the crank. It talkes more than you think

I get great results from a AFR 205 head/ 230/232 cam 90/90 intake and stock LS1 shortblock.. Best one made 451rwhp, that is 500hp at the crank. You can go with cnc'd ls6 heads and make about 470crank witht he same cam.

Get a 6.0 shortblock, put on some l92 heads/intake, and a ~240 cam and you'll be right where you want to be

(2nd car down, blk c5)

I did it w this combo above link. Over 500 crank, more like 525 w a vette 18% driveline loss ( ind suspension) To get where you want is not hard, just bolt ons and budget h/c.
