Found a guy that has a completely solid shell, freshly dipped with axle and subframe mounted under it. No metal work needed.
No interior, panels, doors, motor, glass, anything.
What would this be worth?

What year is it? The year will definitely have a reflection on the price as '69s are more valuable than '67/'68.

I paid $3200 for what you describe three years ago. In todays market, I'd guess $5000?

Body doesn't need any metal, but there is NO bolt on metal.
This is just a plain stripped down shell with a subframe and rear end bolted on.... that is it.

I think ralph nailed it, $5K. When you giure quarters alone are about $3000 for panel and installation before finish work............................

BTW, I forgot to note that it does NOT have a VIN tag.

$0 an run away!!
Why? Isn't it easy enough to find one that is completely rotted and buy it just for the tag?

There should be vin#s stamped in the car in different locations all over the shell. You should be able to find them to run a check to see if it is hot!!!!
Just under the cowl panel on the pass. side is one location for vin#s
I would not want it. If i was not sure it had been stolen from one of my Pro-Touring buddys.

If this is True I would sure like to know the locations. I have seen this with 2nd gen shells but not with the 1st Gen.

Here in the Northeast, people are willing to pay BIG bucks for a clean shell due to most of them being rotted by salt and weather (me included). Finding a clean shell around here is indeed a RARITY.
I started with what appeared to be a decent "repaired" shell only to totally start over. I will have about $8500 into my shell alone (it will be new from firewall to tail panel, minus just a few "non-produced" components). And that's just the metal (no primer/paint).
To give a you a upper end figure to compare to, there are guys building new shells from carcasses, and these are going for $10,500-$13,500:
www.musclecarmetal.com (http://www.musclecarmetal.com)
www.mikescustomcars.com (http://www.mikescustomcars.com/)
...The cars above come with VIN tags and titles. So you would have to ensure the VIN issue gets corrected (that is, you find a VIN# and verify that it is not hot) to compare to these. Dynacorn's "new" '69 vert does NOT come with tags and that is a $13.5K price tag.
I do think that location (North vs. South or West) has a lot to do with value. You just can't find clean shells around here.
I have no clue about the "value" of the shell you are looking at, but the numbers above may prove to be some good guidance for you. Personally,I would pay quite a bit more than $5K if the shell is as you describe and the VIN issue is "correctable." But that is what it would be worth to me and not necessarily its' "value."
Also, another interesting question is, does a shell that has all original panels (no patches) have more value? I think to many it would be more desireable.

Phil
