Differences between 1967 and 68 firebirds?

Whats the difference between 67 and 68 firebirds?

front wing windows on 67, one piece side windows on 68
wraparound turn signals on 68, signals in front on 67,
side marker lights in shape of pontiac emblem on the back fender in 68, none on 67
Rear springs monoleaf on 67, multileaf on 68
there is also something about engine sizes but I forget exactly. I think 326 was the smallest v8 in 67 and 350 was the smallest in 68 But dont quote me on that.

i assume the differences would be at least similar as those between 67 and 68 camaros... so probably:

68 has apposed rear shocks while the 67 does not
67 has a vent window while the 68 does not

i dunno about body or trim differences...

They covered most of the main stuff; there are some HP differences in motors, and some small trim differences in the interior.

hotroddr is correct you could get a 326 in 67 there was no 350. in 68 you could get the 350 but there was no more 326.

I am going to be selling my corvette to build up a more family friendly 4 seater. Trying to decide between 67 and 68 firebird. I am leaning towards the 68 because of the single pane windows and the pontiac side markers.

Isnt the center console different between the years. 67 had a flimsy t handle shifter while the 68 had a better u shaped shifter and upgraded console.

incorrect. Both years hat the T-handle. Carmaro had the U handle

I seen a poll that people liked the 67 over the 68-9 by a larg marjin but I always like the 68 the best. The cool items of the 67 are the vent windows and the factory traction bars on the 400 cars. They had some minor interior diffrences to.

What I love about the FB is when I go to car shows everyone and their brother has a 67-9 camaro but your lucky to find a handful of birds.

Another difference is the front parking/running lights...68s wrapped around the corner :smoke:

Let's not forget the differences in grille colors for the 2 years in question. Also the dash pad goes down the sides of the dash a few inches on a 68, just flat on 67. door panels go all the way to the glass trim on 68, stop a couple inches from top on 67. Burlwood accents for interior on 68, black or straight wood grain on 67. Gauges are different, 160 mph speedo in 68, 120 in 67. I may sound anal, but Ive owned 2 67 firebirds at different times for a total of about 20 years. Its a sickness of sorts.

They both use a T shifter, but the console design is different. I think someone has been watching too much. Maybe it was an Overhaulin episode causing that confusion.

Depending on the time of the build it can have round or rectangle on the 68, vs round only for 67. Some of the later 68"s had headrests as an option. The 67 used facotry traction bars depending on the engine?transmission combination (some only on the right). I think the cylinderheads might have changed from open to closed, but too lazy to verify right now. The gages are different styles.

If it's a vert, the piller covers are slightly different.

Personally, I"ve found that vent windows are very nice for keeping down the wind turbulence, not to mention being open to get a little circulation if caught in the rain. Wish I knew that before I bought mz car.

On the other hand, maybe this will help you. When I was on the market for a '69 I noticed going through catalogs that the 68s shared a lot of parts with either 67s or 69s. So there were parts that were unique only to 69s that were shared between 67 and 68s and there were parts unique to 67s that were shared between 68s and 69s. A 68 is like having AB blood type. And not all the "unique" parts for 67s and 69s were being reproduced yet. Having just got off a project where reproduced parts were nearly as scarce as NOS, I wanted to make it as easy as possible to buy anywhere, whenever I needed.

That's something I didn't think about. I'll be crossing over from the corvette world where you can build a complete car from aftermarket/ reproduction parts.

The parts that you may or may not need are avalable if you look in the right places. I have built 2 67's, parts are easy enough to find.
