That was me, Larry was telling me about it. I wasn't at SEMA, so hopefully he will chime in here.

According to the Jeg's catalog M&H makes a 390/40R17 drag radial I'd really like to try.

17 inch tire size's suck,either 285/40 or 315/35,no in between.

There old school now.18's and 20's are the hottest set-up right with the 22's coming on strong.

Look at the main tiremakers, hardly no 17's

it's a decent tire if you're looking for something tall, but the M&H 390 isn't as wide as you would expect. Not sure how they measured it but my 345/30/18's have a wider contact patch.

Uh........last I cked 275/40/17's are still plentiful and made by a wide range of manufacturers. 18's and 20's may be the hottest thing right now but who cares......17's are still a better fit for form and function and I doubt the tire market for 17's is going anywhere soon.

WTF are you talking about? It may be the hot setup for the bling crowd, but if you want lateral performance 17 & 18 are still on top. But I guess your opinion on 22s go with your opinion on front subs. BTW looks like not much choice here.

17 and 18's are the best for performance,18's and 20's will corner just as well.yeah the 18' and 20's maybe "bling" but that still the more common set-up now a days. How many of you guys got out road course on 17's.

Front subs well thats another post, but I will just say this DSE is not the only company that can build a front sub.

I was thinking for lateral performance 17's are best will think about this, new zo6 18's and 19's will pull a 1g,Bob Johnsons Cuda 19's and 20's.KennyD was tearing up the autox track at Kansas with 18's and 20's I believe on a 57 chevy.

You are right Andrew. It is pointless when the bling blinds the tech.

I saw where someone had introduced a new 295/40/17 but I can't remember who it was,at the moment.
How tall would a 390/40/17 be?

Thanks,Andrew. I just looked at one on their website. 29.5" tall, 14.8" section width, and 12.1" tread width on a 12" wide rim. My wheels are 13's so that might bump the latter two numbers just a bit. 12.1" does seem kinda narrow, though. I'd bet my 335/35/17's are at least that wide. Just wish the 335's were around 28" tall, instead of 26".

Ignoring rim diameter (so not to ignite the 17 vs. 20 thing), can you get to the point where a tire is too wide? Is there a point of diminishing returns

keep 15" wheels... they corner pretty well - take a look at say... The Green Brick... to me - that is a pro-touring car... corners, accelerates, stops, and has modern tech like fuel injection and overdrive.... and it runs little 15" wheels and tires...

Is there a thought process or rule of thumb regarding width, or just trial & error by application? Just trying to learn.

this post had nothing to do with the pros and cons of 15 16 17 or 18 inch wheels. i wasn't looking to start a big argument. but someone said that larry saw a big pirreli at sema or somewhere, and i was curious what the exact size was. thats all.
