I am wanting to do my door handles like these.

Anybody done it yet? Anybody have any pointers? Ideas?

go to the junkyard,
find a car with the door handles you like,
cut out the doorhandles in a big rectangle leaving a few inches around the whole thing,
cut out the same size rectangle on your car,
tack weld a few inches apart, make sure to work the metal as you go so it lines up perfect,
tack closer and closer till you can weld short 1 cm or so welds to finish the patch,
grind smooth fill with a little body filler,
paint and enjoy

if you feel so inclined save the original pieces you cut from your car in case you ever want to go back to original. Thats pretty much how it works.

Ditto on the junkyard search and removing surrounding sheetmetal.

As far as shape, those oval 2000 and up GM handles are very popular lately. I'm guessing you also have a 1st Gen Fbody? There are other body colored, flush mount handles you can use too. Look at more rectangular ones found on 95-99 full sized GM cars and Camrys, I'm actually using them on my 70 Nova. Another cool flush mount handle comes from a early-mid 90s Subaru SVX coupe.
