I recently purchased a new coil and moved all my ignition control stuff to the interior. With less than an hour of run time in the new location and the new coil I start hearing a tick after a few minutes of run time. Now it ticks as soon as I start the engine. I talked to a msd rep and he said to check the brass terminals of the coil to see if they were clean and that the screws holding the control wires from the msd box were tight. After checking all that and not finding anything I am stumped as to what it could be. The last time I heard this kind of noise it was the spark jumping to my firewall from a crack in the insulation around the electrode of the coil. I have taken the new coil out and gave it a visual inspection and could not find any crack in the case of the coil. What could this be? The tick speed rises and falls with the rpm of the motor.
