Update...

I got a second chance offer to buy the Fairlane.. So i send the scammer a note showing interest..

His reply:

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting me.

As you know item is in a perfect condition and It will be shipped from
London UK via Lufthansa Cargo Insured and It will take 5 days tops until you
will have it at your door.

The item is an US model with US specs, comes with all the documents you need
to register`it on your name. Item is in London becouse I just moved here
where I got a new job transfer.

I can't register`it here in London because it is an US model (which complies
with the US emission ) and Europe regulations are different from these ones.

The payment will be made through ebay and only after you will receive the
item i will receive the payment. I will sell the item to you exactly at the
price of your last bid.

If you agree with these terms, please email me your full name, address, eBay
ID and Item number so I can send all the info to eBay and start the
transaction with you.

Thanks a lot for understanding and have a nice day.

Only 5 days from London to California?? wow.. must be sending it on the Concord..

You know what's weird is that I tried to report that auction as a fraud to eBay and it won't let me report it because it says it's an invalid item number. But yet the auction is still up. Go figure.

Yeah, that caught my eye too! Crazy people. And funny on a different level (for me) is always the dialect in their notes. It's just enough bad grammar, etc. that ya gotta see that it's fake!!

Bonus funny: A SENIOR network security guy on my team fell for a Phishing scam from Paypal/Ebay..........TWICE!!!!!!!!!! And HE'S SECURITY!!!

In your story, if you could note how damn difficult it is to actually report fraud, that would be great – call eBay out on that. How about all the complaints we’ve all seen about the poor dispute resolution involving eBay and PayPal.

You know what would make a nice sidebar story, or really its own story, is something on the legality of selling & swapping vins, cowl tags, etc. We see lots of titles & vins for sale, or shells sold just for that purpose. A thorough review of that would be a great service to the car community. Even thought Dynacorn might get pissed.

A local fella has purchased a dynacorn chassis and is going to do a PT mod to it before restoring it and he was told it would come from the supplier with proper documentatio nto be titled as a specially constructed vehicle,, like street rods do.

The scam ebay ads drive me nuts. We have fun with our down time at work and bid them up over a million. That seems to get ebays attention quick and the auction is removed.

For a while on Moparts we were watching a scammer who was offering 426 Hemi crate motors for $6k, Buy it now. I'll take 2. One to use and one for a spare.
