I was thinking of making some custom battery cables out of 0/1 gauge Amp wire. Is there anything wrong with doing this? I just think the stereo wire looks cleaner than the normal stuff used for batteries. Any words of wisdom?

Nothing wrong with doing that.
You can also buy welding cable, which is fine strand just like car audio power wire, usually cheaper than you can get specific "car stereo wire" for. The welding cable just won't have the fancy looking insulation & logos.
