Stock ported heads for a LS1, would they be a good buy? How much would they be worth (I already know what he wants, just want to see what others think). Looking to make around 400+ rwhp in th end when all set and done......

"FULLY PRO PORTED LS1 CYLINDER HEADS WITH BRAND NEW2.02/1.60 Stainless FERREA VALVES AND COMPETITION PORT AND POLISH WITH CHECKING BY SUPERFLOW SF-600 FLOWBENCH ---WITH CARBIDE CUT 5 angle VALVE JOB>>>>>>>>> Bronze guides>>>>>>>> milled .010 for clean deck surface and increase of compression>>>>>>>>>>> 270 cfm @.600 valve lift on INTAKE PORTS>>>>> 205 cfm @.600 on EXHAUST PORTS>>>> Machined for larger 1.5inch spring pad>>> 1997-1998 engines only--- because of the valvecover rails and the bolts are at the perimeter instead of the center as on newer models>>>>> customer decided not to take these and left me with the BILL!!!!!"

What is his asking price? They are LS1 heads so not many people would be looking to buy them. Have the same work done to an LS6 head and it will perform much better. So if you can get them for a good deal I say do it, but if they are going to cost you what a set of worked LS6 heads would cost, skip it and get the LS6 heads.

Also be careful with the 97-98 heads with having the right valve covers and what not. The heads themselves will work on a 99-04 engine, but why bother changing the valve covers and coil brackets if you're starting with a 99-04 engine

The guy wants $650 for them. So these will fit on a '99-'04 motor, I'd just need '97-'98 valve covers?

Sounds like this isn't the greatest of deal

I wouldn't unless your on a tight budget. Worked LS6 heads run around $1200 and that's for brand new GM castings.

I'll pass then, don't have a motor yet anyways

Ya i would reccomend passing the 806 castings 97-98 heads flow considerably worse than the 241 LS1 heads 99-up heads. Sure the porting helps but you should be able to come up with a nice set of LS6 or 5.3 ported heads for around 1200 as was previously said.

Don't do it Buddy...give the guys at West Coast Cylinder Heads a call. I talked to the owner there the other day and so far he has been the most helpful of all the companies I've dialouged with.

I would do some readings on the different manufacturers and porters on LS1tech and then make your decision on who to go with or at least narrow it down to a few companies. There are a ton of head porters out there, but not that many really good ones. Not all head porters are the same, or even close for that matter.

You can get a fully ported set of 243's from Texas Speed for right at a $1000, I have a set on my car and love them. They'll mill them for you and tell them what setup you have cam pushrods etc. they are great to work with!
