Well my winter projects have started. A few of us pulled the bed tonight, so that I can clean and paint the frame. Hopefully after that is done, I can start on the motor and trans swap. On to the pics.

Its been for ever since I updated this thread. So since the last update, the frame was painted with Por-15 (awesome stuff) and put back together. The bed had a roll-on bedliner put on it top and bottom. The truck is now turned around up on jackstands, so that I can start working on the rest of the frame. On to the pics.

Well its been awhile since I have updated this thread. Not much has changed on the truck since the last update. The framerails under the cab are stripped and ready for Por-15. I have been working hard on the motor (LT1) the last month. I got a box of goodies last night. Included in the box were; Comp cams 306cam, 918beehive springs, 1.6 pro mag rr, retainers, keepers, Cloyes Lt4 roller timing chain and GM Performance Guideplates for Aluminum Bow Tie Heads. The heads have been cleaned up and ported matched to the intake along with new valve seats put in. I should be picking the motor up from my dads this week, so that it can start going together. Next on the list of things to do is buying the trans.

Hopefully I will have pics of the motor on the engine stand really soon.

What do you guys think about these valve cover along with painting the engine orange and leaving the heads, intake, and timing cover bare alum?

Sorry in advance if it's bad taste to bump old threads here, but I couldn't help it.

That's a badass truck. I was just wondering what suspension mods you have as that truck sits absolutely perfect. Also, how much better is the handling from the factory ZQ8 set up? Not looking for a scientific answer, so anything from "a little better" to "hell on rails" would suffice. :)

how do u like those valve covers? iam planing on ordering some for my car.

lower90xcab
05-03-2007, 06:53 PM
I believe that it handles a lot better than the factory zq8 set up ever did....The body roll is almost completly gone. The truck is dropped 5/6 using all belltech parts; 3inch coils, 2inch spindles, 3inch leafs and 3inch blocks..I really should have notched the frame 2.5inches in the rear to help get some more travel in the rearend, but it really doesnt bottom out at all..Right now im looking at the getting some global west tubular control arms and coilovers for the front...I would like to also four link the rear or put it in a trailing arm setup with coilovers too.

As for the valve covers...im really happy with them..im going to have to do a little grinding on the right one to clear my rocker arms...other than that they seem to be a great product.

Here is the part number for the gaskets that we used....
Fel-pro VS 12869 T

They are the race gasket for a 85 and older small block...we had to cut the bolt holes of the inside of the gasket, so that they would clear. They fit nice and tight...If you need me too I can get pics of where we cut them..

hope that helps

talked to my uncle today...we are going to start making room in the shop in the next week or so....so hopefully we can have the motor pulled shortly...i will follow that with the frame paint and other misc things that need done to the frontend.....

i built the grill myself....there is about 100hrs in making it....i started with a stock 98+ sonoma grille and 94-97 s10 grille...i cut the center section out of the s10 grille and plastic welded into the sonoma grille..

its boxed form the front til under the cab....if i ever make some real hp's and maybe autocross/dragrace the truck the frame will get boxed with probably a 4link or truckarm setup....

thanks for the comments guys!!!

here is what i got done over the holiday break;

frame from the motor crossmember back stripped and ready for por15, the floorboard stripped of the undercoating and painted with the spray on bedliner to match the bottom of the bed, and the firewall stripped and painted twice....one would assume using all rust-oleum from start to finish would be ok....but i was proven wrong...i cleaned and stripped the firewall completly down, used rust-oleum primer, then gloss black (7779)...it looked awesome, so i sprayed some of their clear over the black and all hell broke lose....the paint started running off, cracking and bubbling.....so i let it dry and stripped it all back off and just primed and painted the firewall...

right now, its look to be stock arms with poly bushings and belltech coils....im still not sure what i want to do with the front suspension...my main goal right now is to get the truck together with the motor and get it all sorted out....once that is done i will probably take a long hard look at the front & rear suspension setups...i would like to see how yours and dan's frontend work out, then maybe that will give some direction for mine..

the rear brakes are from a 95 or 96 impala ss...the truck really hooks up good with the hotckis leafs and traction bars....i was surpised how hard the traction bars hit....
