Ha folks, just joined. Have a 85 El Camino SS and trying to find out what the hell Pro-Touring is vs straight strip/street. Starting project to upgrade my El Camino now and wanted all round driving not just down the 1/4 mile. Currently having some initial work perfomed, i. e. new rear end, new front end, trashing all smog equipment, exhuast manifold, headers, duals, rims, tires. Starting to look at new engine, maybe transmission. Again, I am looking for great all round driving experience, handling like a sports cars, performance like a muscle car.
Anyway, hello

Welcome to the site, Brad.
Perhaps this will shed some light on what pro-touring is:

Thanks, thats what I was looking for and its for me. I was heading in that direction with my El Camino but did not know that direction had a name "Pro-Touring". I want a great handling car, great performance but still have my air conditioner. Want my El Camino to handle like my wifes SLK but have that musle car appearance and power, not interested in blower sticking out of the hood and 12 in. slick.
Thanks for your input.

No problem, I'm sure your project will fit in perfectly here, and I agree with you, huge blowers sticking out of the hood, chromed everything and slicks sticking out of the wheel wells is not for me either.
