Umm, dont stay in pontiac, not the best area. I would look in rochester, rochester hills, Lake Orion, Auburn Hills. Any surrounding area would be ok to live in. Just trust me, Dont live in Pontiac, Bad area.

I concur, the surronding areas are nice but pricey. Big taxes around there.

There are some nice rural area north of Pontiac too, like the Pine Knob area, just depends on how much you want to commute. I used to live in the Holly/Fenton area, but that might be a bit much for a morning commute.

Ditto on Pontiac, stay away. Flint too, although that's a haul from Pontiac.
Try Clarkston and Waterford too. Clarkston in particular seems to be a good value for the $. You're coming here at a good time as a buyer, the housing market here s*cks right now so you're sure to get a hell of a deal on something. I've been looking to move that way since spring (out of garage space, need MORE, 5 bays total minimum and one 27' deep for my boat) but need to sell my house first and the market is just brutal. Good luck.
