View Full Version : UFC 64 - Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva
Who's going to watch, or is watching this right now?
I like Rich as a fighter, I don't know him personally, but his buddy Jorge Gurgel and I have hung out with mutal friends. Rich is certainly pretty damn good but this Silva dude is one of the best I've seen at that weight division too!
You could see it as soon as he fought Chris Lebon. and I DO like Lebon.
The money is probably on Franklin but Silva seems to have a longer reach and certainly has more fluid movement. I'd say that Silva has power equal to Franklin too!
Should be exciting, can't wait to see it!
well that 155lb Title fight was B L O O D Y !!! Bloody to the point of being nasty, even if it was "just" a head cut.
Kenny Florian's jujitsu skills were pretty much nullified with all that blood making things slippery. At that point, the obvious strength advantage of Shawn Shirk was going to eventually prevail.
On to the Headline fight now!!!

Franklin got beat! KO'd in the first round. Franklin is a local guy where i live. I had the pleasure of meeting him this past winter. Super nice guy. Sucks to see him lose but he will be back.
SILVA WON!!!
I gotta say, Rich's eyes and expression as he was walking in to his music just didn't look like he was ready to fight. He looked like he had already lost. It was odd. I don't think he was as cut as his last fight either. I may be imagining that, he's obviously in good shape even if he had a couple of extra percentage of bodyfat.
Silva put him in a Mua-tai (?) clinch pretty early and drove in some HARD knees to Riches ribs....both sides. Heck, Riches right side was even red from the hit! (like a good leg kick would do)
They broke apart for a little bit, then as they closed back in, Silva went for a Mua-Tai clinch again and this time was able to bring the head down to his knee and BAM!! Rich's nose was jacked at that point, and he was a little foggy.
Silva followed that up with a side kick to the head and Rich went down from the abuse. He went defensive and the Ref stepped in and stopped it there.

I was surprised to see this fight after all of the hype in TUF Comeback about the winner fighting Franklin. I mean Silva is no joke and has awesome standup. I saw the commercial for the fight and Franklin said there wasn't anyone in his weight class he was scared to "throw hands with." Then they cut to Silva highlights...I was like yea you might rethink that.
These tough fights are what keeps UFC and MMA interesting for me. If boxing would follow their lead and then find a way to get the decisions right when it goes to the cards they might earn my dollars again.

About Rich not looking ready to fight... From what I have read he was only able to train for 3 out of the 8 months leading up to the fight due to injuries. I hope he gets a rematch shortly down the road. That knee to the face was brutal. I couldn't believe how messed up rich's nose was after the fight.
UFC 65 should be bad ass. Hughes Vs. GSP, nad Silva Vs. Monsoon. I can't wait to see Silva in the right with a guy that he is a foot taller than but only 20 pounds heavier. Should be good stuff.

I wasn't surprised. Have you guys seen Silva fight before? He is clearly superior to Franklin in strength and technique.
Here is a link to the fight along with other Silva fights (not 56k friendly).

WOW! Talk about total domination! Imagine what it would have been like if Silva had hit him with more than just knees, like he did Leben. Franklin looked powerless in the clinch.
Here is the Silva versus Leben fight for those who haven't seen it.
