why not use a truck body..... or just do a full tube stucture... or hell any thing but a muscle car. i just dont get why you'd bang up a collectable car like that.

Well here I am,,,I got this car in 1978 right out of high school. In 1988 I decided to turn it into a 4X4. It is not on a 4X4 frame, it is on the original Firebird subframe. It steers and drives perfect. Rides smoother, steers better, and has better brakes. It has the original deluxe interior, original dash pad and bench buckets with factory A/C, all in perfect condition plus it still has the original AM radio.
It has an International 345 torque monster ported and polished with a three angle valve job. The heads are also shaved .037 with shim style head gaskets for best compression. I installed a 727 torqueflite, dana 20 transfer case and dana 44 axles front and rear with 4.09 gears and track lock differentials.
This car is a rocket! It out climbs everything I've been up against. It does a 907 RTI on the ramp. We take it rock crawling every chance we get. We get surrounded at every stop we make.
If I ever decided to convert it back ,,pull the subframe bolts and roll my spare subframe under it. 2 wheeler in 2 days. It's now 10 times the car it ever was stock. I drive it every day. I think I'll keep it a 4x4 for a while. Hope to see you around. Flag me down if you ever see me.

That kicks a$$. I'm just starting to work on my 'bird, and it's not something i'd do but give the guy some credit. It's different and he didn't murder the sheet metal to do it.

Thank you. You should see it blasting down the highway.I couldn't give it any gas 'cause all four tires (YES ALL FOUR)wanted to smoke. Some people try to say we winched it up because my spotter said "bring it up a little". We did have a safety cable hooked up (like any rock crawler would) but it was dragging and I was about to run it over. It did every inch on it's own. Everyone else trailers their crawler to the rocks,,, we drive 200 miles,,, go crawling,,, drive home and then drive it to the car shows. Iv'e been to 5 car shows and won 3 of them. It is truely a Muscle car now and I would like to think it belongs in your forum.

Cool car! I always wanted to build a 4x4 with a Pontiac 455. I would think a engine with low rpm and lots of torque would be perfect for off-road, More pics please.

i think it's cool. especially since you actually drive it. 100 times better than any trailer queen muscle car ever could be. if you don't drive it's just a big piece of sheetmetal furniture. i really like the fact that you didn't butcher the car to do it. NICE!!!!

Sorry that is the second dumbest thing I have ever seen. The thing I don't understand is what the hell does it have to do with pro touring go post it on a firebird site and see what they say.Put it on a hillbilly 4x4 site where it will fit in!

Ouch man! I think there is a lot more than just PT stuff here and especially in this section. He's just sharing with fellow car guys. Dont turn PT into a social status...its all about cars and having fun.

If you don't have anything nice to say...

Personally it looks like it's well cared for, and it was built when the car wasn't really anything special. Relax guys..when you get right down to it, it's just metal!

go post your argument starting comment on a shop manual thumping, my penis is too small website.

The guy put in some wrench time, and in the end, it is his car not yours. Some comments are best left unsaid.

Binder- i personally dig the car, and the fact the subframes can be switched out in a couple of days took some insight in the begining to make it happen. Cool car.

I thought comments and opinions was the point of a message board? I think alot of you guys would be singing a diff. toon if it was a dusterRT or a 69-70 Mustang for example

Dude, you are correct, this is a opinion board, but just have some class and don't call someone an idiot (you did not say that litteraly, but that is what it came across like) because you don't like thier style. What would this place be like if everyone had red 69 Camaro's with TTII's!?!?
Some things are better unsaid
But I still like it, but then again, I am a hillbilly that likes 4x4's too!:yeah:

you're right we probably would have a problem with it then but mostly because you can't do do what binderbird did to one of those because you would HAVE to cut it up to do it, he didn't and not only that he uses it for what he he built it for, he drives it and 4 wheels, it doesn't just sit in his driveway or on a trailer. hell, i can't even say that at the moment my car hasn't moved under it's own power for over 10 years, it's not done yet but it still hasn't moved so it just sit's in the garage collecting dust.

i actually applaud him for building what he likes, using it for what he built it for and doubly for the fact that it's totally reversible with no ill effects.
