I was given a 75 a-body 8.25" Mopar rearend for my 68 cuda project. I plan on matching it up to a 360 and 904 over/under tranny. I want to have a all wheel disc brake setup. How come everyone makes a 8.75 or dana kit but nothing for the 8.25? I was told these rearends are plenty strong for most small block situations and are way cheaper and much more common then the a-body 8.75.
So what's up, why don't more vendors support this rearend?

Simply because it is the #3 out of 3 rears for Mopars. The Dana is the top dog for strength, then the 8 3/4 isn't that far behind a Ford 9" and is plentiful. The 8 1/4 is basically the runt/economy rearend.
Personally, I had suregrip 8 3/4 that failed me twice and had a 8 1/4 single leg that I had abused more and it never gave. The more power went to the smaller unit too, it was a taller gear though.
Given that, I would still narrow a 8 3/4 because you can get sure grip, more gears, brakes, etc. I've got a S60 under the 'cuda and I think it's a little overkill.

I may be wrong but this rear is used in Early 2000 and later Dodge Durango's. Some of the later (2002-2003) had rear disk brakes. You may be able to pirate a set from them.

Thanks Bird I'll check into that.
Fish no doubt that dana 60 knock-off is overkill. The last time I saw a a-body 8.75 was a used stock one for $600! Not even rebuilt. That's reduculous. Years ago I converted a 71 Dart from a slant six to a 360 like I want to do with this car. It had a 727 and 8.75 out of a 67 Coronet. The rear on the 66-67 is 2" wider and so I used a set of offset rear leaf shackles and it bolted right in. Never had a problem. I was told to do this from a bunch of old time Mopar guys at the time.

8.25. 1996 and down have 27 spline axles thats not very good for v8 power. In 97 they went to 29 spline. They also have very small front pinion bearings.
