Curious to know your buildup to acheive that are of power. Is it peaky HP or broad?

Ported heads and tiny cam made over 500 hp. They are very potent motors. I added state of the art custom exhaust and doubled that power!:twothumbs

LS1s are definitely not peaky. The have awesome broad TQ and HP curves, and wind out to 7,000 rpm with a cam/header swap.

500 crank HP is simple, that would be a set of mildly ported stock heads, mild cam, and longtube headers.

Magnacharger unintercooled running 5.5 psi, tiny cam, and full exhaust. 460rwhp 440 ftlbs(550hp 530 ftlbs engine). Not peaky at all. Stock LS1 other than the mods listed and it's all through an M6.

Doing a 99 LS1 with AFR 205s and a 224/228 comp XER cam with full exhaust. Should put down around 420rwhp and 400ftlbs at the very least. Full exhaust and through an M6 as well. Very broad power band for road course running and street use. Also a very livable idle.

500 crank Hp is so easy and can be made in so many ways with the LS engines. Just depends on how much money you have and what you want to do with the car.

Who does the porting on the stock heads? Who's "mild" cam are you guys using and did you upgrade the valve springs when adding the Cam, I hear the stock valve springs are good for stock and that's about it.

How well do the longtube headers fit in the car as far as clearance (to the road). Who's headers are cost effective?

Thanks!

my friend made 402hp 407tq at the wheels on a stock 99 ls1 with a fast intake and a thunder racing 232/236 112 through a 6 speed with 3:55 gears and those 99heads are just crappy

I run TEA stage 2 heads with a 224/224 on 114 cam with .581 lift. Put 430 RWHP through a 4l60.

Headers will depend on the car they are going in and what's availible. I do not know what car you're building. The cars I mentioned are both C5 Corvettes.

No sense in porting LS1 heads honestly. Buy ported LS6 heads from Texas-speed.com or Patriot performance or TEA does great work also. Not sure on TEAs price, I just know the other two run around $1200 for brand new GM castings ported and no core charge. Another option is to get new castings like AFR and RHS. They will be the best choice but they also cost nearly twice as much.

Mild cam is a generic term obviously. Basically anything below 224 is mild. The cam I mentioned with the blower is even smaller. It's actually a stealth cam. That's around 218 and 220 duration. You can go even smaller and still produce great results depending on the build. Lingenfelter has some tiny cams that work great with blowers.

Most cams though even when bought from different speed shops and called their own are actually ground by Comp Cams on their XER line.

Valve springs and push rods must be changed. Comp 918 springs are common upgrades and then the 927s I believe are the dual spring ones. Springs do not cost a lot nor do push rods. Change them. Rocker arms do not have to be changed, but if you're going to be pounding on the car and running high rpm's often, it is not a bad idea to change the rockers too.

I ran a 224/230 on a 110lsa .560 lift. I had the gmmg chambered exhaust, lt hooker headers, no cats, a 4l60e with a 3500 tci converter, 3.73 gears. it made 412 hp at the tires.
this was in a 99 SS
