I was just wondering how popular the Iron 6.0l's are. I am seriously thinking about running one. I can get them for a pretty good price. I have heard they make good numbers.

I'm running a 6.0l.

Its quicker then my buddies 72 Short with a LS1/4l60e and 3:07s

Mines a 6.0l/4l80e with 2:73's(and we all know how blah that is off the line, especially with the 80e)

how many miles on the set-up?

The 6.0 is what I'm planning on running. I figure my current setup is a GEN1 SB with aluminum heads so I will not have to change my front spring rates. There have been 6.0's out of Denali or escalade on ebay with computer wiring and all assesories for $1999.99 buy it now...

I just dropped an LQ4 that I built up in my 81Z last weekend. I bought it as a low mile long block that a guy hydrauliced(sp?) and bent two connecting rods. The core yard had 6 or so LQ4s so I found a couple rods of the same weight and built it up. The cool thing about the '01 and newer engines is the fact that they come with the 317 aluminum heads which flow very similar to the LS6 heads. The iron block can be bored to at least .30 over and with it's 4.00" bore, the newer L92 or LS7 heads will bolt up too!

I put an 2004 LQ4 6.0 from a Denali with 3000 miles on it in my 68 camaro. I got it for $1500.00. I took it to the track and it ran best so far 12.06 @112.8mph. I put a small upgrade cam Futral F6 and LS6 intake and thats it.

Where did you get the engine for $1500? Also did it come with accessories computer etc?

A freind i know buys and sells wrecked cars and trucks. The vehicle my engine came out of was burnt in the rear. I got engine and computer but no acc.
He has a 2001 transam 6 speed with 50,000 miles right now for $3500.00 for the whole car. It has been hit in the side so the engine bay is perfect.

What are you guys doing about the front drive accesories? I think you have to change water pumps to get the LS6 intake to bolt up. Best price I have found is a 02 LQ4, 20000 miles, oil pan to intake with harness for $1800. I don't think you can use the oil pan in a 68 camaro cause it hangs to low. I'm trying to find a aftermarket pan right now. Did you guys use the stock wiring harness or aftermarket? Has anyone used the painless harness?

Apparantly the F body pan doesn't hang as low. You will need the pick-up as well.

The front of the sump on the F-body pan had to be notched for clearance on mine.

I got an awesome deal on a lq4 two weeks ago. I had to drive to pick it up but it was worth it. It came out of a 02 wrecked HD silverado. It had 35000 miles. Its complete minus the alternator and came with the 4l80e still bolted to it. I only plan to use the engine in its current condition to mock some stuff up in the car, then it will be torn down, bored and stroked to a 408 and single turbo.

I got the whole package for $1200!

I tried to edit my post. I see it didn't "take".
Yes, I belive the F body pan needs some "notching" to fit the 1st gen Camaros. But it'll fit just fine in my 2nd gen Corvette :-)

As far as I know noone of the stock pans will fit an A-body. Moroso and Milodon just announced steel pans that will work in an A-body.

There is a company that makes mounts that sits the motor back far enough to use a stock F-body pan. I think the company is called BMR. Anyway, the engine ends up being REALLY close to the firewall.

how did you fit your gm block to the viper t56? I was told that you can't mate (or at least the cost would be crazy) an ls1 / lq9 with the viper 6 speed.

McLeod makes a kit. The Viper input shaft is 1/4" longer. With this kit they use a spacer, than the bellhousing. All under $500.00

Where can I find one of these really good deals. Apparently mine wasn't that good. I really like saving a buck.
