Does anyone know if a BB chevy will fit under a stock flat hood on a first gen Camaro?

Yes, but you cannot get any decent air cleaner on it with most of the performance manifolds out there. With a stock flat manifold you could do it, but then you're giving up noticeable power.

I'm almost sure it won't.

Ok, thanks guys. What about the ss hood? I would think it has a couple more inches of clearance

Came from the factory that way, so yeah it would fit. But like Jody said, depends on manifold and air cleaner set up.

I don't think the SS hood give anymore clearance. Obviously a cowl hood would though.

If you run the factory cowl hood you can run the BBC, and still get a good intake, carb, and air cleaner under there.

But as others have said, on the stock flat hood, you are really limited with clearance options... One thing you could look into is maybe running solid motor mounts (the lower ones) if I recall you can get 3 different sizes, this might help....

I have a buyer interested in my 67 and he was asking. When I restored the car I did not want a cookie cutter car. ie. cowl hood and spoilers. Well now that I'm trying to sell it, thats not going over well. So looks like I'll be installing both. I was just hoping I could get away without having to do the painting, which is not my favorite aspect of this hobby.

My 496 has a Summit drop top on a Holley Strip Dom single plane with a 3310-2 Holley 750 cfm carb. under my stock SS hood BUT I had to use a 2" x 14" air filter and a 7/16" thick cabinet grade plywood wood washer under the filter to fit it!

NOS BB frame mounts and poly motor mounts, (with the back-up plates), too.

Paul,

Some day when you're bored pull the hood off the car and install a 14X4" filter on it. Take it for a drive and see if you notice any more power.

I had a big block car that would pick up .7-.8 in e.t. and several mph at the track with the above situation. A 2" tall filter was about all that would fit, but it definitely cost power.
