Will a 700R4 fit a LS1? If it doesnt, does someone make a kit so it does?

5 out of the 6 bolt holes line up which should be fine.

www.bowtieoverdrives.com sells cables and brackets to connect the tv cable to the t-body.

5 out of the 6 bolt holes line up which should be fine. The sixth hole has a pad on the block that can be drilled and tapped if you like.

Jody

Is that the hole at the 2 o'clock location? I thought you hit water if you drilled it out....

You may be correct Andrew. I just noticed it has the pad but isn't drilled. I was going with 5 bolts on mine, but good info if true.

there are issues with the converter lining up but I know gm makes a deal that centers the converter in the ls1 crank, or I think you can get a converter with the ls1 snout on it. A search for "non ls1 trans on ls1" over on ls1tech.com in the hybrids/conversions section should yeild the part number for the spacer.

The tranny fits, you just have to tack weld a little extra snout on the 700R4 convertor so it centers properly.

Definitely not a good idea. Everything I have read claims you will not even hit water but you will hit piston!

Non-issue for me, I'm only going to run 5 bolts. I edited my original post.

My understanding is that the fly wheel and convertor wont match up. There is kit you can buy but the only place we found them was S&P. for a 1000.00. 0UCH. so we bought a 4L65E. its almost break even with either option.

as far as I know the th350/400 converter snouts are the same as 700r4's so the adapter in the first link should work with stock ls1 flexplate, and I think the ati flexplate comes with the adapter for the older converters.

These kits move your flex plate? If do does your starter need to be changed?

from what I understand they fill the gap that is left between the old style torque converters and the ls1 crankshaft and ensure that the converter is centered in the crankshaft, because the snout on an ls1 converter is longer than the old style converters, but the flexplate stays in the same spot.

ive been running a 700r4 on my ls1 in my 73 vette,i use my convertor from my 700r4 a crank spacer from GM and 6 longer bolts to go with the spacer. plus i used a c5 flexplate.5 of the 6 bolts line up for the bellhousing. It just depends on what flexplate you use ,if you use a flat flexplate you put the spacer behind the flexplate and crank if you use the curved ls style flexplate you put the spacer after the flexplate .Either way the ls style starters line up fine.
