This week we started cutting apart my beautiful 66 fastback with bigger and better things in mind. It is always a painful pocess hurting the car you love and have put so much time into, but it needs help. The 66 mustang fastback will be sporting a partial tube frame upgrade with modifications coming to the stock front and rear frames and a custom center section to tie them together. An eight point cage will be going in as well as new sheetmetal floors, console, firewall, engine bay, interior......
The engine will be set back about 6 inches and down a few. The new dash and engine setback require new mountings for the pedals, wipers......
We are going to tuck the front and rear bumpers and have some custom sheetmetal front and rear accents to give it that distinct look. Here is a firsthand look at the carnage...stay posted for further beautification.

no, the floors were pristine, but are now gone to make way for better things. Sorry if that makes you sick, mustang guys seem to not want to cut their cars up. I somehow recently got over that fear and it feels good.

Cutting up a car is not beyond me but cutting up a Fastback thats not rusted when there are so many that the floors are shot I could not do. Why didnt you just pick up anouther car and keep your clean car to.

louie@g-machine
10-03-2006, 09:08 AM
I did it because I dont have the funds to buy another body, and I am simply not afraid of replacing sheetmetal. If i ever want the car to be bone stock Again I will rip out everything that I have done and replace it with new panels. I feel your dismay though, I would have felt the same way a few years ago. All I ask is that you hold judgement until you see the finished product.

Hey no judgement, just having such a nice car would have made me think before I cut it. Saving a rusty floor car is always good.

ooooh, a project that is local! Looks like a good start Louie, keep up the good work. Do you mind having visitors from time to time at the shop? I might have to stop by.

Heh, I noticed on your website you work on musclecars and off-road trucks. Just so happens those are the only vehicles I own. THat's my kinda shop!

So will this car finally feature all the components you've got listed on your site? As you may recall, I've been watching your stuff for a very long time now and will be glad to finally get a look at the stuff actually on a car. CAD drawings are so uninspiring.

louie@g-machine
10-12-2006, 10:52 PM
haha, agreed, cad is nice, real life is better. Look for the pics of the suspension in the next few weeks. We were originally trying to get manufacturers insurance for the kits, but since it would make the suspension too expensive to sell we are finally going ahead with it, just going the route everyone else does....offroad only. I was planning on taking another test car out to the track as well and doing a write up. So much to do so little time.

well, it has been months since I have had time to post or work on the car. customers come first I guess. anyways, we have finished the main structure on the cage, now it only needs seat mounts, tranny tunnel, and sheetmetal. the front is also getting a much needed upgrade with our 65/66 suspension kit. these are the first pictures of the kit, and you can se where we are going with it. it will pe running a stock car style sway bar, and lots of other cool goodies. the rear end for the three link is also coming along nicely.
enjoy!
Louie

hello everyone, My name is Jason and im the other half of G-Machine. I do all of the welding and most of the metal work. I bring into the picture years of racing experience with a multi-car NASCAR team and also fabrication experience from the intense world of off-road race trucks. Here are the pics i think louie was trying to post up.

good point, but this is a bit of a surprise. We will be having our new coilover suspension system that is a bolt in kit. I do not want to give to much away because this is louie's baby. He designed the suspension and i will let he give the proper answer to this. Just keep checking up on the build, there will be some new/innovative things coming up!

the original goal was to maintain as much of the stock car while relocating the lower arm. we accomplished this. I did not get rid of the shock towers for those that wanted to keep their cars stock but wanted a signifigantly better suspension. It is a 1.75+ inch drop on the UCA allowing you to cut a signifigant portion of the shock tower away, and if done right it would fit a mod motor fairly easily. Additionally, the geometry is so much better that I was not that worried about it. It will easily outrun a mustang II or other options any day of the week.

im not a mustang fan but this one has my attention keep it up!! :twothumbs

what motor/trans are you planning on using?

louie@g-machine
03-01-2007, 05:58 PM
we are going to be using a fuel injected 5.0 twin turbo built in house. we will also be using a t-5 until it blows up. then it is onto the 6 speed.
