Body off frame help...

First off, I am not sure if this is the right forum for it, but since it is involved in most restorations I figured I would be safe.

I am removing the body of a 1968 GTO convertible from the frame so i can do some modifications and clean it up. My question is, is there any sort of special handling prcedures to take note of since it is a convertible? I want to avoid warping anything out of shape. I have removed a hardtop'd body from a frame and didnt worry too much about it and just need the reassurance that I wont mess anything up with the 'vert. Thanks.

I pulled my 442 body without doing too much of anything. The inner structure is pretty strong and seemed to support itself pretty well. One thing though, as I am sure you know, don't weld in body panels without bolting the body to the frame.

yep, i am aware of that. the frame is the reason it is being pulled. I have to replace the rear frame peice and clean it/paint it all nice like. then the body is going back on to get what it needs.

Make sure you just keep the doors on. B/C there is no top, the doors hold alot of structural integrity to the body. Goodluck

Although I would make bolt in brace in place of the doors so you can work on it without opening the doors.

the frame is going to be blasted and sprayed candy black just like the exterior of the goat. i plan to base it with orion silver to give it a little sparkle in the black....the owner is still debating the concept of adding in ghost flames using the original green color tint and pearl.

persoanlly I think flames are out style wise...unless on custom motorcycles...

Look at the 05' Dodge magnum brilliant black color for the frame...

i love flames, but my opinion and yours dont matter when it is someone elses money paying for it....lol. i personally want the car tu-tone with a black top and gray/silver bottom and a black convertible top...but oh well.
