I remember those days too!! But I usually have a lot less car left after I get the years of bondo and paint off!! Wish once I could blast a car and find metal where the rear quarters are suppossed to be. Always fun finding surprises, like the piece of fiber board and 4 gallons of bondo that was covering up what was once a sunroof..

Looks great!!:camaro:

I was lucky I only have to replace the roof, LFT quarter panel and the tail light section. I'll do all that after I get my mini-tubs and rear end in. I thought I was shocked to find damage that I didn't know about, but a sunroof cover up wow!

From the looks of it we have about the same amount of work. I'm going to replace both qtr's, tail light panel and the roof. I don't know if a trade would gain you anything. LOL... I'll keep the updates coming, I look forward to seeing your's also.

just want to say that you fellas have some killer camaros. I'm a mustang guy at heart but I love all classic metal. I do have one question, how do you guys get away without using a front bumper. I have a few friends that have done the shelby front bumper on thier stangs and it requires getting rid of the front bumper and they can't keep the cops off their tails.

Hey it'd save me a drivers floor, trunk floor, rear inner fender wells and part of a rocker panel! But my roof is in good shape. I still need both rear qtrs and tail light panel as well. I'm actually waiting to hear back from a guy that might sell his complete '67 shell since he hasn't done anything with it in 10 years. If that doesn't happen then I'll be getting it sandblasted within the next couple weeks. Just got my doors, cowl panel, core support and multiple smaller items back from the blaster this past weekend (he epoxy coats em too!).

Nice subframe with coil overs BTW! I just stuck with stock CA's and drop springs

What are you having it blasted with? Mine was done with walnut shells. Be careful with glass bead and others they tend to heat up the metal and create more work. It is great that he coats the parts when finished. I found a shop around the corner from me that did my whole car for $850 with walnut shells. It came out great, but there was some rust that has caused me to replace the roof and both qtr’s were damaged and need to be replaced. I got the tail section, roof and hood last week. I’m waiting on the qtr’s as it appears there is a shortage because of all of the body build up’s going on. My vendor told me minimum 4 weeks and Classic Industries quoted me 3-4 months.

The Subframe is a Wayne Due C4 setup and I’ll be installing a C4 Rear end in it as well. It will be a few more weeks before I can work on it again. So when I get a chance to work on it I’ll post some progress pics

Wow, a shortage in qtrs!!! Yikes!
Actually it will be blasted with sand... I know I know... but this guy has done it for 30 years and knows the right distance and angle to hold the nozzle on the smooth surfaces. He just did my cowl panel and both doors and they came out just fine. I questioned him about it all before I took anything. Anyway, the only thing that could be ruined on the shell would be the roof. And he can blast my shell for - get this - $200-$250! Probably another $75-$100 for him to spray it afterwards. He did several misc items (hood latch, trunk latch, hood hinges, headlight brackets, fender braces, gas tank brackets, blower air duct and a few other items) along with 2 door shells, cowl panel and core support for $100. That included the epoxy. Now I will say the epoxy wasn't sprayed on the best and missed a few spots, in which I just finished touching them up here at home with a can of etching primer.

I'd love to do a IRS rear, but I have nowhere near the $$ or fab skills to do it. There's a guy over by cleveland that randomly gets full C5 suspension/motor/drivetrain and he puts em up on ebay. A C5 Z06 motor, wheels, drivetrain, suspension just sold for a little over 10k recently. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-Corvette-Z06-LS6-Rolling-Chassis-Engine-COMPLETE-LS1_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33615QQihZ020QQitem Z300035160260QQrdZ1
I'd love to have been able to go this route, probably is well worth it dollar wise.

I’ll take that as a great complement after drooling over your car. The hard part now is getting my car to look like the rendering. I'll post more pic's when he completes my project.

The C5 is a lot of work! The C4 is not as difficult. I was working with Wayne to build a bolt in Kit and got the OK to fab his brackets. Unfortunately Wayne closed the doors. I’m building his IRS kits now, but will be making a newer version that can be bolted in or welded. Wayne sent a few customers my way so I had to duplicate his kit. I have a full time job that does not allow me to develop near as quickly as I would like. I was always planning to run my exhaust out the side in front of the rear tires so my plan would work fine for me, but I found I’ll have to change it if people want to run their exhaust out the rear.

When I get a kit going I’ll post pictures.

Are you selling them now?

I would love to get one.

I'm working out details now with a local machine shop for some of the fab work. Let me see how the shop does. The fab work will be approx. 4 – 6 weeks. I’m also working on detailed instructions for the weld in parts and also working on a bolt in kit.

Well it has been a while since I have posted any update to Riptide. I spent the last 2 weekends non stop to complete a Corvette IRS install into my 67 Camaro. I'm working on a kit to bolt in C4 rear ends into 67 - 69 Camaro's. I'm building another kit to test on a 69 Camaro at the same time.

Anyway have a look at my progress.

I also installed the WD front sub frame for the first time (It has been sitting in my garage for over a year). I think it is looking just like I want. The tires and wheels are only donors till I'm ready for the new set. I've got a long way to go and a move that will slow things down just a little. I hope in the next few months to replace the quarters, tail section and the roof. I had quite a bit of rust around the drip rails and the dash. Also found accident damage after media blasting. So I decided to replace rather than rework these parts. I will post more when I get further along and will have more pictures on my web site soon.

More pics of my progress. Next step is the DSE Tubs and painting the floor. Then replacing the Roof, Qtr panels and tail section.

Test fitting some parts. I'm also attempting to make it easier to move.

Thanks for the comments!

It's stock width 61" (my original rearend was 60") I couldn't find an easy way to narrow it without modifying the frame rails or changing the 4 link. I started with a Wayne Due kit and modified it so that it could be bolted in rather than welded in. :ssst: The renderings are with a narrowed rear end. The deapest offset would be the wheels I have on there now. So it will not be as narrowed as the renderings.

Very cool project!!!

It does not look like your ride height is going to match the renderings. Will you be able to get the car to match the drawings?

Brent

formula98

I agree it will be difficult to get the ride height to the same level as in the rendering, but I'm planning to use air ride in the future. I plan to get the car to look just like the renderings with the exception of the ride height and the rear wheels will not be as deep.

Thanks for the kind words.....
