As far as I can tell GM rear axles (10 bolt and 12 bolt) have the pinion offset 1/2" towards the passenger size of the vehicle. And on Ford 9-inch axles the pinion is offset 2" to the passengers side.

Aside from driveshaft tunnel clearance issues is thier any problem with having the pinion offset the extra 1 1/2"? If you buy a 9-inch housing that is custom built for a GM car is the housing built with the 1/2" or 2" offset?

I am wondering if the extra offset will adversly affect the U-joints in any way?

Thanks.

My recollection is that the 9 inch is offset about 1". Usually folks set up their housing so that the driveshaft is centered in the tunnel, so there is no additional wear on the u-joints.
