I have a ford 9 out of a 68 cougar with the tapered axle housings which go from 3 inch to 2 3/4 inch that i am putting in my 68 camaro. My question is where can I find gm multi leaf perches that are for a 2 3/4 inch housing?
THANKS A LOT

A friend of mine had the same problem when installing a late-60s Cougar 9-inch in his '69 Nova. He used 3" O.D. Mopar spring perches http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=2632&prmenbr=361
and bought two short lengths of pipe with an OD of 3" and 1/8" wall thickness. He cut them in half lengthwise to fit them around the axle tubes where the perches were going to be mounted, and welded them in place. This brought the effective axle tube OD to 3".

I've also used these exact Mopar perches on my 12-bolt. In my opinion these perches allow easier pinion angle changes (using shims) than the GM 'saddle' type perches. Here's a pic of mine with front and back braces as well as a 2-degreee shim installed.

Dan
