i have a stock 1964 nova and was wondering what modifications i would have to do to fit 20-22" wheels in the back and 20" in the front. im not sure of the width but i would want enough space to put a pretty wide tire underneath. keeping in mind that the chevy II always had the problem of rubbing in the front. i was thinking that a rack and pinion setup might be good for the front. i know this is a very general question but would appreciate any help. thanks

JMAO(Just My Amateur Opinion) but first of all I think 20's will look kind of goofy don't you? JMO but I think 18's are as big as you want to go. Pick up the september 2006 issue of Popular Hotrodding. They have a 67 on the cover that is the bomb and he is rolling on 18's. This way you can see what it really looks like. You may want to look into an aftermarket front clip if you want to put in a rack and pinion. Most of them will improve the handling over stock along with giving you R & P and more room for wider front tires. I have a '66 and am planning on going 255 in front if possible and in rear I would say that you probably don't want to go any wider than 295 even with a minitub although you can probably go wider with a full tub.

I agree with Novanut.
But it you want a wheel that big, extend the fender wheel openings.

I am in the boat with these guys....The Chev II has smaller wheel openings and really does not need a huge wheel to look "right". I would say a 19 at the biggest.... in fact an 18/ 19 combo would probably be super sweet.

I agree with everyone else. Here's a 1st gen with 20s on it, and I personally think it looks ridiculous, but hey, its your project:https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here's a link to some more pics of deuces with big wheels: http://www.stevesnovasite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41077
Personally, I think 18s are still on the big side for 1st gens...
