For the sake of research (5x5 hub+spindle upgrade).
I don't have a spindle in front of me, and need the following dimensions (if available)
-spindle center to UBJ pivot (vertical)
-spindle center to LBJ pivot (vertical)
-LBJ pivot to outer tie rod pivot (vertical&horizontal)
-KPI*
Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you

Thank you... very much!
Normally, I'm really good about using the search function. I sorta failed this time. Thanks again

By the way, one dimension I need, that isn't on the pic.
-"spindle drop" (measured from the upper surface of the LBJ boss to the center of the spindle pin)
What's my plan? Well, I've run into a couple of small issues.
-The front suspension I plan on using is based around the stock spindle and ball joints
-My old stock spindle has been abused for 33 years. so... I want new ones
-nobody, including GM, makes stock height second gen spindles. Everybody and their brother makes drop spindles (that I don't want).
-To match the rear hubs that I have (Nextel Cup take-offs), I'm using a 5x5 bolt pattern w/5/8" studs. I've found hubs, but see above issues (this takes the AFX spindle out of contention, even though it is a killer unit).
So...
-I'm looking at using the forged steel Nextel Cup spindles from Stock Car Products. They can be ordered custom machined and I have a sneaking hunch that the second gen geometry is well within the range of "adjustment". The standard KPI is 8*...check. They have about a 2.875" machining range... check. And custom steering arms are available, giving some more range (They accept a "standard" tapered tie rod end, I'll have to ask about machining for "alternate" LBJ's). All of this means, I should be able to get the same height, KPI, spindle drop, and scrub radius as the originals (Although, I have a hunch that I'll need somewhat more backspacing than standard. I'll need custom wheels anyways. CCW has the centers I need, so no problem there). Needless to say, this is a really one-off kind of a deal. I suppose I could do my own measurements. Fact is... I'm working an awful lot right now and the car is 30 miles away. So, not really feasable right now.

I would think SCP has the camaro spindle dimensions in their files.
I can't find second gen KPA in my 72 GM manual, but a first gen is 8 3/4 deg, and a second gen is closer to 10 from memory.

Herb Adams years ago sold a Stock Car Products spindle as a bolt on upgrade, so I would think they have the specs.
Alos remember the B car spindles have the same basic specs. Not sure if they are still available new. Their rotors are also 5x5.

Well... I just got off the phone with somebody at SCP. I guess they have no such info. Not to mention, had I been standing there, I think he would have looked at me like I have two heads (on top of my shoulders). This is turning out to be absolutely demoralizing:banghead: :smashcomp :help: .
BTW David, you're absolutely right. I was perusing a dirt-track site. I guess the 2nd gen KPI is 10*
So... dimensions I have
-8.75" tall
-10* KPI
-~2.25" pin drop (I'm assuming the LBJ boss to be about .75" thick)
Back to the drawing board for me

Heres what I got;
Pin to lower ball joint pivot point- 3.312"
Lower pivot to upper pivot- 11.125"(@ 9.36*)
Both dimensions w/stock ball joints.
9.36 KPI(got that one from an alignment shop)
These are for a 82 Caddy w/12" rotors(sam ting only different)

as a side note, i know its not the direction you're looking at heading, but ats is planning to release their second gen spindle by the end of the year...you might want to either wait for theirs, or contact them about stock numbers

Well,
just ordered new spindles today. We'll see how they work. Fact is, I'm just going to assume they're (I'm) going to be wrong (very, very close to right though)
SCP fabricated spindles
-8.75" long
-9.5* KPI
-2.25" spindle drop
-3" steering arm drop. .5" turned in (this is ~.25 higher than stock to allow for some tuning room)
-6.25" steering arm (~.25" shorter than stock. Ackerman bushings allow for .375" each way.)
-5x5 spindle pin
-brake brackets for Wilwood 5.25" pattern (1.25"x13" rotor). This will fit the radial mount SL-6 caliper perfectly (with the Wilwood adapter mount).
Thank you everyone for your help. I'll keep you posted. (not to mention this makes for a good search thread in case I get somewhat lost later on...)
