View Full Version : QA 1 shock leak

I just got new rear QA1's for the rear of the Ventura. I hadnt installed them yet and decided to push them by hand in and out and feel the change from setting to setting. Well, they would leak oil out on to the shaft after several strokes. Is this normal? I would hope they wouldnt leak at 140 dollars a shock!! Anyone else have trouble with these shocks?

Mine didn't leak when I put them on my '96 Camaro. That doesn't sound right to me. Do they all do this, or just one shock?

Well, both the rears. I dont have the front coilover setups with me to check.

That just doesn't seem right to me, I would definately call their technical support.

Yea, I'll call them tomorrow. Maybe they need a little break in time?

just a gess, but did the shaft have an oil film on it from the assembly and when you compressed it the seal at the top of the shock wiped the oil off and makes it look as it is leaking ?

No, you can wipe them clean, and give them a few strokes. More oil. I'm not talking about vigorous strokes either. I've treated them like Mom's fine china since I took them out of the box.

I went back to them after your post, just to make sure. Still the same. I'll post what their tech dept says.

The stuff I ordered from Global West for the Chevelle arrived with a leaking QA1 as well. They replaced it free of charge! I must admit I'd hoped it was an isolated occurence.
