Drivetrain plans?
Very Cool. Nice to see another 78 PT project. What are you doing for the rear? How are you going to fit that rubber?

for the rear i was looking at lateral dynamics' 3 link setup. right now for drivetrain im thinking ramjet 502 with a built M6 from an f-body but my plans change like the wind blows hahaha.
I have one question for everyone...... If you had a chance to buy a perfectly restored 79 camaro w/t-tops (some assembly required) for $4500 knowing your car already needs over that to get it to the same point. Would this be a no brainer?!? Im getting flack from a few people saying its not the same and keep what i have. I figure you car nuts will agree with me on this, i just need reassurance that living off of bread and water for the next 4 mo. is worth it lol.

all i gotta say is it isn't always about the money. it's a hobby, that excites us from within. doin' things ourselves. it's what makes you feel like one with our car.
ignore those guys who don't know the love of the hobby or sport!

I realize it is a hobby, but there is a point when common sense should take hold. I never get really attached to my cars, so I would have no problems saving some money and going with the more complete car, especially since I am on a limited budget. You can always just put your subframe and interior in this other car. Plus you will be able to say you completed the car in less time for less money.
This is all my personal thinking so please dont take offense.
I am not sure I have seen a TTop car with a 502 in it. I doubt you would get so much power that you could crack them with that engine, but something to think about.
P.S. VERY nice job! I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I will be putting in a min. 8 pt roll cage as well, which i am hoping will do the trick lol. looks like i might be keeping what i have and slowly redo it. ill have to go to the body shop and get a rough estimate on what it will cost. with starting a new business and coming into my slow season at work i could better benefit having a roof over my head lol.

I may have missed it somewhere, but did you document the installation of that R&P? I would love to know how difficult/easy it was installing.

As far as the car question goes...I've battled a LOT with the money I've spent on my car over the years. I was originally planning on going with an ls1 or lt1 formy, and just leaving it stock and rolling around, but I got a wicked deal on my bird and took it. Now, with prices dropping on fourth gens and c5's, I could have easily picked up a much better car for my money--on paper.
I look at it like this way, though: What you're creating is unique. You're building a car that is different than any other car out there. Even if you spend the same amount of money a new corvette would cost you to reach the same level of performance, you see several corvettes a day out there. How many 78 camaro g-machines do you see daily? weekly? yearly? If you make it to a big show, you MIGHT see one or two cars that are SIMILAR to your baby, but at the end of the day, you have something that nobody else out there has. The same argument could be made, to an extent, for a stock-restored car. At the end of the day, although rarer than most cars, it's just an old camaro, just like the thousands of other old camaros that rolled off of the assembly line. You are creating a personal expression of your tastes and interests. It's almost the same ethos as that behind art. To me, that's what makes this hobby worth the time and money.
That being said...where'd you get your front clip?!? It looks wicked.

Thanks for al the responses, nice to see that compliment before the car is on the road. lol im used to being on the road and hearing it.
As for the gauge assembly, it was a piece i made custom for my camaro dash. It's basic idea is the same as what camaroboy has but mine mimics the oem gauge cluster so you can have all of your engine vitals in front of you. Plus best of all its a clean look with out chopping up the gauge bezel. I assume this would fit the birds as well since their gauge opening is a little larger.
If anyone is interested in one let me know i can have my buddy make some more I only have one other template extra right now. I think i still have the original floating areound as well.
