Had a blast at the event.. was so busy taking shots on Sunday that I forgot to eat lunch or even bum any rides.. lol
Here are just a few of the shots I got.. My shutter speed was a bit slow (don't know why) so some are not as sharp as I like but still good considering the cars were hauling butt in these shots.
Congrats to all that "walked the walk" and actually drove their cars hard, you should be proud.
Can't wait till next year..

Great pics. Anyone know what times the '69 and '70 Chevelle turned on the autox?
I would of like to make the event, but I was there the weekend before, and that was a damn long drive, even in a late model.

I don't remember what they ran but the 66 Chevelle ran a low 64.
I drove 10 hours each direction in my 95 and beat it rather hard over the weekend. I had reservations about it, but once the green light or green flag shown all that went out the window. The car ran a slippery 8.58 1/8 ( 13.4 1/4 ) and 64.9 autox while pulling 29 mpg on the highway. In my book there is nothing better than a Lsx based engine. ( 2001 stock LS1, headers no cats, ram air. underdriven harmonic balancer, HP tuners and free mods )

Car#229: 69 Chevelle belonging to Heath Hays ran a best of 72.836
Car#68: 70 Chevelle ran a series of DNF's No times. Which is important to note. If you are having difficulty navigating the course, strap a navigator into the passenger seat. The extra weight will not have a major affect on performance and you will have much more fun.

Steve,
Take a look at the DSE car and yours. Note how deeply the tires are burried in the wheel wells on the DSE Camaro compared to yours. Granted, the '69 is flat along the top and the '68 are round, but it looks like:
a) they started out a lot lower
b) they have more body roll
c) different level of cornering "load" in the two photos
what do you think?

I'm pretty sure Kyle is running softer springs. But then again, Kyle's car doesn't ride like a cement truck. But yes, my car looked very composed out there. Not a lot of smoke from either end--which probably has more to do with the stiff roll-cage equipped chassis than anything else. It frees up the suspension to do it's thing during transition without waiting for the chassis to catch up. That, in turn, makes the car predictable to the driver. Check out the video in that other thread and you will see that my car is positively boring to watch. Tony is driving and no cones appear to have been clipped, so the run is probably the 65.090. His three runs in my car were as follows.
1st: 65.090 2nd: 64.124 +1 = 66.124 3rd: 63.947 +1 = 65.947
I'll let you decide which run you think is quickest--the 65.090 or the corrected 65.947. Tony said the car will do a clean 63 run, so I'm just tickled. Now all I need are some driving skills.

Keep in mind that the shot with Steevos car and the DSE car were taken on two COMPLETLY different turns.. the one with the DSE car is coming off the high-speed banked turn. Steevo's car is coming off the first reletively mild chicane. Sorta hard to compare the two. I bet the DSE car was doing 80 or more MPH in that shot.
Shooting moving 'track' photos is new to me, different from drag racing, so I am still in the learning curve and it's hard to get a sharp car and "moving" wheels :)

The extra weight had no effect on my runs. In fact I ran my two quickest times with Vicki in the right seat. Rubes and Dropit69 joked about the car being more balanced weight wise. ( I hope she does not see this. :hand: )

Yup. This fits somewhere between autocross-plus or road course track day-minus.
I will settle for AxH: Autocross from Hell.

those shots are kickass.....any chance you could email me any more you have of the air ride Rs? I need a new background!
P.s. I haven't forgotten about sending you pics....i just don't think you want shots of it sitting in a parking lot taken with a camera phone, and that's all I've got right now :pat: . I'll get them to ya as soon as i have at least a real camera to take them with!
Good shootin, cowboy! The autocross was definitely a highlight.....maybe THE highlight of the event. It was all great, but I want more autocross! My problem was that I had to drive it home, so if it broke, I'd hafta move in with Bill!

Great pics Steve! Thanks for my new background! I love the action shots! Nice seeing all that muscle burnin' up the track!
Where else can you do that legally for 10 bucks? (and the cost of a tranny mount)

That was the tires "hazing" and breaking loose.. sort of a burn out in a turn.. lol.. was the only time I saw it do that..
Nova accelerated when it should have braked.. hit a water barrier. Instead of crying about it the driver decided to hit the track again with a vengence.. of course he did slow a bit at where his earlier error took place.
Accidents happen.. could be at the track or on the way to the grocery store..

You don't have any "redneck things not to do to your car" pics featuring my car, duct tape and bailing wire, do you? :squint:

Yeah, that guy took the fender bender with great stride... I don't think he sat out for more then 45 minutes before he was back at it again. I don't think he had time to clean his pants out first... I know I didn't!
The guy riding with Steve is none other then Tony B.. he was yelling "stop honking the horn and drive!"
:thankyou:
So... did you ever make it to the ball of string???
I didn't even make it through the whole roll of duct tape.
At least you got my good side............the outside.
How did you step over to the dark side with Billybob anyway?!?
HA HA HA HA best picture yet! Damn Georgia Hillbillys, can not take them anywhere.

Takes one to know one! You're the one who had the strap and the idea, so who's the bigger redneck? Anyway, it got me on the track!

Sorry Andrew. You need to be on the ball when you have an idea for "redneck tech". It usually starts by saying "hey y'all, watch this"!
