This is my 'modern' approach to pro-touring, a 550 rwhp supercharged Z51 Corvette. Aka money pit #1.

I snapped these photos this evening, at a nearby boat launch ramp. Camera is a Canon Digital SLR Rebel XT, 10-22 wide angle zoom, polarizer filter, and an orange sunset Cokin slide filter. I shoot features for GM High Tech Performance magazine, just practicing with the hardware.

Wow, killer vette. I want to say thanks too for telling us what you used for camera and the setup it took to make those shots. It's nice to see what pros are doing to take great pictures (at least the camera/gear side, I know theres other things involved too!). Thanks!

I bet with that hood there must be a Maggie underneath. How did you get to that RWHP?

You guys are correct, it has a Magnacharger on it. The hood is required to fit the blower, it is about an inch taller than stock. This car has a 230/230 114 cam, longtube headers, exhaust system, and the Magnacharger at 5 psi boost. The car has gone 11.3 @ 129 mph on radials, spinning. Should go 10s easily now with the new 3.90 gears, and cooler weather.

All of the photographers that I know who shoot for the various magazines use Canon, and swear by them. No complaints here!

Canon's quality looks good these days? Last time I shopped for a camera (SLR, not digital) I found the Canon to be lacking and went with the Nikon N6006. Ok, that should date my purchase! Oh, I was replacing a Canon AE1 Program. Anyway, the Canon cameras at the time seemed a bit flimsy, while the Nikon seemd to have a bit more substance to it. Plus a lot of the reviews I read gave the Nikons the nod for quality and the fact that they used the same footprint lenses as other Nikon cameras. If I remember correctly, the Canons used diffferent lense footprints for different models. Anyway, my point; which DSLR is everybody using these days. Which one seems the most durable? And why am I dreaming about purchasing a camera? Hell, I'm not employed... Arg!

Bill, most of the magazine guys I know prefer Canon digital equipment. Probably a better selection of lenses.

Beautiful! Those are some awesome numbers! How do you like the Maggie/LS2 combo? I was originally going that route for my Chevelle, but am leaning more towards a naturally aspirated LS2 build with around 400-450whp.

No complaints here, especially since it is only a mild 5 psi boost. I've been daily-driving the car for the last two weeks since my Wife's car is getting the turbo installed (Mustang). Still averaging about 26 mpg in this one.

Tony,

How do you like those DPE wheels? I've been talking to those fellas about getting a set of GT7's when they release the 3 piece.

How is the whine? Loud?

The whine is silent at idle, barely noticeable until about 5500 rpm. Between 6000 rpm and my 6900 rpm shift points, it howls like a banshee. I need to try out my new in-car camera mount...

Nice. The louder the better :). I had a Stillen Stage 3 supercharger (Eaton M65 blower) on my Infiniti G35 and it was LOUD. I loved it.

Tony - absolutely amazing car, and the photos are awesome as well. I've always wanted to get into photography, and I just bought a Canon Digital Rebel XTi (which I love) about 2 months ago. I've been taking tons of pictures and reading everything I can get my hands on so that I can learn the mechanics of good photography.

I read what equipment you were using to take these pictures, but could you give me any details about the actual camera settings you used for them? Especially the head-on picture with the headlights on...how did you properly expose the background and sky w/out the headlights washing everything out? If these kinds of things are closely-guarded secrets of magazine photogs, I'll understand :hail: :fingersx:

Whenever I see a C6 Z06, I keep thinking about your car Tony, and how it probably out-performs them... Incredible!
How hard is the Magnacharger install and how much are they?

please tell me this is the same vette that was at the" year one show "at Road Atlanta this year?? I love that car!!! we heard it on the track saying .It screams like a banshie is putting it mild, it was music to my ears,, made me want to build my own version of it!!! ( the old saying "imitation is the best form of flattery"well its true in this cars case.

Nine Ball

rockdogz, the Magna for the C6 is around $7300 polished. Installation was time-consuming because you have to remove the entire front steering rack and radiator to drill/pin the crank pulley. If it weren't for that, the install would take maybe 3 hrs.

stage2, yes that was me at the Year One event. Roasting the tires down the straights was fun, walking away from the C6 Z06 that tried to keep up was even more fun :)

Sweet car.

Q: w/the money you spent, you prolly coulda got a Z06. Albeit the Z06 is slower, I was wondering if you thought about it and why you went w/this route. Not that I woulda done a Z06 either.

Nine Ball
12-27-2006, 12:43 PM
1. roof doesn't come off on a Z06. I like removing the top.
2. I knew the LS2 had just as much potential as an LS7, both are very capable engines at making big HP reliably.
3. I bought this car when Z06's were selling for $20K over MSRP. I got this one for $4K less than MSRP.
