View Full Version : My new shop

My new shop is pretty much done. I figured I'd show it off. It is a 30x50. I cant wait to start working on my car more now since I have room.

Anyone have suggestions on what I need to get. I just have basic tools right now(been using my dads tools all my life). So what should I have on my list to get.

man that is sweet andrew..id do my air compresser and lines first..beings you have nothing in the way..then draw up a scetch of your shop and decide where your want you bench and everything..that heavy stuff sucks to move around more than 1 time..good luck ..

nope that shop isnt going to work take it all down and send it to me!! looks good man, like said befor run all your air lines. and set your stuff up. oo and spend the big bucks and get a car lift ! o and another thing dont use copper pipe to do your air lines.

Nice shop. I am working on 32 x 40 for myself. I can't wait to have some room.

Muthstryker why can't you use copper for air lines? I will need to do this soon and that was an option I was considering.

For seating I'm going to do some bucket seats out of diffrent cars(my buddy gave me his old two last night) and I was just given a small fridge the other day.

When I get it set up your welcome to come up anytime and check it out.

Like they said above, draw it on paper, and try to figure out where you'll want a few air-line hookups, your electrical outlets, lots of lights, and your main bench (or two) and eventual tool chest. Then figure out where you'd have storage for not just the usual shop stuff and cleaners but the bigger stuff like heads, a block, tranny, ramps, etc.

Epoxy will be several hundred for that much space but WOW would that be super cool if you did do it.

Nice space.

Before you move all your tools and 'extra stuff' in now is a good time to finish it off right because once it gets filled, removing everything to do building work probably won't happen. I'd suggest:

Wire that puppy up with 220, and have 110 outlets every 6 feet or so. Lighting, make sure you have enough light so you can see what you're working on
Insilation and sheetrock, even it it's a do-it-yourself job. It will make it feel more homie instead of a warehouse feel
Epoxy the floors. You'll thank yourself later
Hang cabnets, build at least 3 nice size benches and a roll around table while your at it.
Pick up some home depot/cosco pre-fab'd storage racks. You can never have to much space to stack your crap on.
Compressor air lines if you want to get fancy and have the finances left over.

+10 on the floor. I juyst did mine, and scrubbing out the grease and getting old paint off it was a bitch.

But you do have to let it fully cure first.

Yeah I'm getting the stuff for the floor this week. And the electrical guys should be out this week also. I'm going to draw it out and maby I'll post it up so you guys can give me more advice.

I 2nd this. Do it now, or it will never get done right. PPG makes an awesome self leveling epoxy. Currently doing the floors at our 2nd facility. It'll look great on a brand new slab

I also 2nd getting your airline and electrical ran. Just remember, you can never have enough outlets; it alot hard to add on later!
