View Full Version : ANYONE able to get 6 piston Wilwoods to work with dropped spindles?

After running a road race this Labor day weekend with my 67 camaro, and having the fastest car in my group all was good (or at least until the trans lost 2nd gear and I had to grab 1st at 60 mph causing a spin).
Anyway, after the mess with precision brakes and not getting some brakes to work with my dropped spindles I put a stock height spindle back on to work with my 6 piston Wilwoods superlites up front. Things were ok, but I noticed a definite drop in handling with the car back up anothe inch or so, even with the qa1's set down about as low as I can get. Maybe a combination of dampening and height? It also just does'nt look quite right with the rear lowered and the front up slightly.
Anyone out there that can get these brakes to work with a dropped spindle, or make something that will? It will need to be a very good brake capable of getting speed scrubbed off a 3700lb ride at speeds over 140 mph with a 17 inch wheel. Thanks!

....possibly with the AFX spindles. Other than that, nope.

Dan,

I studied the Willwood catalogues and figured out a theoretical possibility to get them to fit to a dropped spindle. I'm not at home right now. I can have a look and let you know in a couple of days though.

Dan,

FYI; I've been released from the hospital last friday afternoon after a fall at work caused 7 fractured vertabrae and 2 broken ribs. Luckily all the fractures are stable and I will fully recover. To support my spine the hospital provided me with a kind of corset. Except for lying flat on my back I have to wear this corset for the next 2 months.

Enough background info; I'll try to find the info from the Willwood catalogues this week, providing you still need it.

Oh BTW; what kind of dropped spindles are you using and what kinda calipers are/were you using (I believe Dynalite II, right?)? In other words: what's the distance between the caliper mounting points? The theoratical possibility I am refering to is based on the Superior Spindles ( http://www.superiorspindles.com/camaro.html )

Cheers,
René

Actually, the dynalites I removed and put on the street car. Not enough brake for repeated road course action with this car. I now have 6 piston wilwood superlites, and it appears they will work with the superior drop spindle. Thx!
