Probably another Stupid Crankcase Vent ?

I did a search on this and found some things that are related. But, I have a 67 327ci motor, and I'm breaking it down for machining. When I removed the intake manifold, I see this canister that is piped to the back of the block, with a fitting on it. The fitting originally was routed to the baseplate on the carb. There was a PCV valve just before the carb. Ok, my dilemma. I'm putting an Edelbrock Air gap intake on the the motor, and the GM Racing valve covers. On my covers I have breathers on both, and an oil filler cap on one. My question, if I've explained this right, is will I have adequate crankcase ventilation if I use the two breathers (one on each cover) to pull in fresh air, and vent air, and use the valve on the block routed to the carb base plate? So Instead of having the one valve cover with pcv run to carb base plate and the other with a breather, I'll have two seperate breathers, and the pcv from block to carb base plate. Please, if you guys know anything about this, let me know, I'd hate to change it out if I don't have to. Thanks.

wow, no ideas on my question? Not even one? I know it's not an LS1 question but, I know someone knows something about these old motors.

That is the air inlet for the PCV system on a '67 and earlier block. If you put a breather in the valve cover and PCV in the other, you should be able to install a plug at the back of the block if you want. I suppose you could reverse that and install the PCV into the hole, but you'd have to fab a plug with a hole in it for the fitting. Replacing the PCV would probably be a pain as well.

Thanks for your response, and I understand that. What I was wondering is can I use that existing set up if I was to have a breather on both valve covers, and the pcv on an adapter to the bottom plate of the carb. So the hose would run from the back of the motor to that canister deal, and to a pcv on the carb plate, and breathe through both valve covers. If you have an answer I'd really appreciate it. Did not want to eliminate it if I don't have to. Would make for a much cleaner look.

I don't see why you couldn't do that. I'm not sure how you'd go about mounting the ball check valve of the PCV to the carb, but assuming that issue is resolved, there shouldn't be any problem with having more than one breather in the system.

I think it would be simpler to leave the inlet in the back of the block, put a breather in one cover, and run PCV to the other cover.
