a buddy at work runs a side welding shop, he acquired a century mig somewhere along the way, said it worked fine before he pulled some pieces off to get another welder going and he has other machines he likes better. he said i could have it for free. is it even worth fixing and using or should i stear clear and avoid a headache. thanks

Free is free,
I'd take it and give it a try, otherwise you could always sell it on ebay and drink beer with your buddy for the money.
