After searching other threads for direction I'm left with even more uncertainty. I have a '71 Chevy truck and a '70 Impala with factory air. Many years ago after they had lost their charge, I pulled the compressors and capped the ports and hoses during engine rebuilds. Now that many years have passed and things have changed, I'm not sure what all components are necessary to replace in the absence of R-12. I've worked around and even detailed the "doghouses" and by itself is not worth the large expense in a total aftermarket replacement just to clean up the firewall. Are later model compressors needed to be efficient and what all is compatible with each other?

I suggest a call to Classis Auto Air, 813 251 2356. The are the experts on irginal A/C and can supply anything you need. Depending on the parts, they may be a discount through GP Store. Get part numbers and e mail lisa, [email protected] and see what she can do for you.
