Hello. My DD broke down last night. 97 GMC K2500 with L29 454. Was running just fine and then it stalled in traffic. No spark out of the coil, no tach movement while cranking. I pulled the wire off the crank position sensor and re-connected, no difference. I also checked all ignition related fuses. What do you think..... CPS or Coil?

The cam position sensor is in the distributor, that's the one I'd check. the crank sensor is used for OBD2 stuff only.

Rookie question: Is there a code for the cps? Can you pull the codes crossing a & b on the aldl connector?

Not on the OBDII stuff. Cheap code readers for OBDII can be had for a few bucks at the local chain auto parts store.

Thanks myclone, then with that code reader would it be a simple matter to i.d. the cps as the problem?

Upon further inspection I discovered that I had the main engine harness draped over the steering shaft, which had worn through, and shorted out the ecm. All better now.
