I like the chopped 60 Chevy. I see that there are some very old school influences in the air-shocked and big-tired musclecars and its obvious some of those builders "think" differently. The signs in the background (that I noticed) are in English...and you say this is from Japan? Is it possible the pics are from North Carolina or Utah?

Just kidding,

Wow, 1985 wants their cars back! Or atleast some of them. The Orange '69 was cool.

Side note: Pantera fans, pick up Rebel Meets Rebel. It's a band with David Allen Coe (vocals) Dime bag and Vinnie Paul on drums. It's kinda country/metal. Normally I despise country (except for Johnny Cash) and I generally listen to much harder stuff, but the CD is pretty good, and unique.

Is it just me, or is there a very strong resemblance between the black Skyline and the yellow Gremlin ?:dunno:
After looking at all those pictures, and remembering some of the bizarre stuff I've seen before, I'd have to come to the conclusion that the Japanese have hard core 'rodders and "ricers" just like North America. I'll bet they even have their share of squirrels:hah: :screwy:

There is ALOT OF $$$$$$$ there these guys find it cheap to buy cars from the states allready done and we make a killing as well....kinda why I laugh when you guys get all huffy in some of the discussions of cars being outrageously priced on e-bay....they are for people like this to see and just do the buy it now or a broker to do it for them when I was growing up I used to be into Lowriders as well.... the Japanese would buy so many cars that were on the show circuit or in Lowrider magazine for BIG $$$$ it was crazy...seems to be the same thing goin on with American Muscle...I believe there was a company that used to do most of the Lowrider Deals... sorry for the blabbering just reminded me of the old days.........:guilty:

There are quite a few American Muscle cars in Japan, and they are every bit as hard core about American muscle as the next. There are cars that have been there since the 1960's when American servicemembers brought them over, and over the years, quite a few private buyers have gone to the USA, New Zealand and Australia to buy Detroit Iron collectables. Shops like Casper in Yokosuka, Fireball in Sagamihara and BERG in Atsugi are some of the names that come to mind. Yes, they do drag race and some guys even bring their cars and support units to the USA to race in Top Fuel, Funny Car and the likes.

Those trucks? Those rigs will run you almost a half million US. Each truck driver who owns his own rig will usually do something to personalize their trucks. Lights, artwork, metal work, bright pieces, horns, etc. My uncle owns one. These guys are tough. Not yakuza, but more bosozoku street fighters.

Just thought I'd chime in.

180SX_Faktory

Those wheels are Panasport wheels. They are more than likely 14x11.5 -30 offset for the front and 14x13 -50 offset for the rear. I have some that are similar made by RS Watanabe.

The car is a 1970 Skyline GTR. The 1972-77 Skyline looked like a miniature Chevy Chevelle. You can find these cars for sale on private lots in Japan for approx $20k. There are a few in the Los Angeles area.

The Skyline looks amazing. The lines remond me of a 67 Cougar, but smaller. Awesome. I think one of those with an Rb26TT swap would be incredible. Talk about pro-touring on a whole other level. Very cool.

I have been seeing these sell for 70K or better here, after importing and making them legal here.

Got any pictures 72-77's? They are a bad ass car for sure.

That's been done quite a few times already. You'll also find RB25/26 swaps in old Z cars, as well. The trouble is that the rear ends need to be swapped out for something more heavy duty. We have a 1981 280ZX with a Toyota 2JZGTE mated to a getrag 6-speed that puts down 590 rwhp in the garage right now. The guy who owns the car has gone through so many half axles at test and tune. We told him to upgrade to a solid rear axle with a Ford 9" or a Toyota Land Cruiser 8.5". The time he was able to peg-leg it down the 1320, he pulled down a 11.4 sec pass. Anyway, he won't listen to us, soooooooooo now the car is for sale. I'm getting tired of it being in the garage because we have other work that needs to get done.

The 1972-77 Nissan KPGC110 Skyline GTR. Also known in Japan as the "Ken and Mary" because of a soundtrack that was used as part of the commercial performed by a duet known as Ken and Mary (UK duo?). Anyway, this 4th generation Skyline was the last to carry the GTR badge until 13 years later when the R32 Skyline GTR made its debut and the start of the infamous RB26DETT (Nissan's answer to Toyota's 7MGTE Supra; Toyota produced the 2JZGTE as an answer to the RB26DETT).

I figured the swap has been done before. It just seems natural. Too bad for the guy that owns the 280Z. I know there are companies that make the "mustache" bars that allow the upgrade to an r230 rear from a 300ZX turbo. Sound slike an easy upgrade. Nothing like installing a 8.8 Cobra diff into an FC RX7...LOL

Yes, it is, but a lot of the guys who have gone with the RB swap say that the car doesn't feel natural anymore. Most guys will retain the L28 and bump it up to a 3.1. I've never owned an older Skyline. I got into my first one with the R32 about 7 years ago. I had to get out of it because I got tired of hitting the petrol station three or more times a week. That throttle is just tooo addicting! Lol! I am looking forward to the new GTR that will debut soon. The price tag I hear is comparable o the C6 Z06, and I'm wondering how the US folks are going to adapt to it. Total new design that shares nothing in common with any of the current Nissan chassis. It will no longer be called Skyline GTR. Just GTR and available to the whole world. Right behind that, we'll also see the return of the Supra. Thank God that we are getting back to whoop-ass cars, and we can thank Detroit for that!

The RB swap is becoming much more popular now that the engine sets are coming down in price. RB's are getting swapped into all sorts of stuff. My brother owns a shop in Georgia, Top Hat Performance, and they do the swaps, make the mount kits and all sorts of stuff. Here's my Z that they did. RB25 swap from an R33. I sold the car to a guy in New Jersey, he flew down, picked the car up then drove 14 hours back to Jersey with an 8 gallon fuel cel, no wipers, open exhaust from the downpipe and no signals.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2007/07/Picture007-1.jpg

All of the bodywork was steel. There was no fiberglass on the car anywhere. All hand done, not a kit. The car ran the stock rear end, never had a problem with it either. If I upped the power, I would have to do some rear end swapping.

Right now, they are building a turbocharged LS1 powered R32. When that thing gets done, it's gonna be a beast.

As for the Japanese scene. The whole thing with the crazy pipes is that Bosozuko style. The word means "Wreckless gang" if memory serves me correctly. They are a tough bunch of hombres. The big pipes, huge body kits and gigantic fender treatments are normal for them. They are also known to ride around at 5 mph where they go bouncing their engines off of the rev limiter. Neat to see.

Every culture is influenced by different things. Japanese are no different. So their way of doing things doesn't match ours. Our cars are V8 powered and old school. Theirs are techno filled, usualy get better gas mileage, have A/C and will flat out fly. 1000 HP Skylines with A/C that are street driven aren't that uncommon unlike 1000 hp cars are here. And they do it from a 6 cylinder. Our cars are popular over there for the same reason theirs are here. Rarity.

I like the crazy Jap style cars, yea they are different, but they are cool.

So, you are diggin' the "bosozoku" style! Actually, this is a
"mild" bosozoku hashiriya and quite tasty! Yeah, you would definitely need some power to break traction with those 14x13 -50 something in the rear!

You'll like this 1975 Toyota Celica done by Mr. "Smokey" Nagata. Smokey is the owner of Top Secret. He makes some crazy fast cars, and is a speed freak and head of the 300 KPH crowd in Japan (RH9). He's so crazy about going fast that he will send his cars to place like the autobahn in Germany, M3 line in the UK, and to places in the UK and New Zealand just to say he has busted 300 KPH there. He's been nabbed a few times, but AFTER he completed his run. His nickname, Smokey, is for his signature burn outs before launching. He specializes in the RB26DETT and will shove into anything that can hold it. I used to go to his shop in Chiba to buy stuff for my Skyline, as well as to send to the USA for people who wanted his stuff.

Bosozoku style?... hahahhaha, nah man..
Jibunwa bosozoku no style wa sukijanai desu..

I stay in japan alot of the year and see alot of nice cars. especially in Yamanashi where we live at.
I have the newest Lightning Vintage Auto #8 with Smokeys car in it.

Ive liked the Celicas but havent the heart to build one while my Venny is alittle more official than that to me.

Nihongo shaberu no? Yamanashi ga suki! Hakone Skyline was always a place to start out on the way up to Yamanashi. I used to play with the Sti and EVO guys in my 180SX for the late night touge action. My gf at the time hated it! Demo shoganai na! So, you know all of the American Muscle shops in Kanto? Man! Crazy money for stuff that doesn't cost even a fraction of the prices they want stuff for. Yanase has the market on lock for anything "imported". That's why I could never even consider doing American Muscle in Japan.

Anyway, I plan on being back in Japan after oshogatsu. One of my old gfs is going back to Nagoya around that time. She's doing that work-study thing in Australia.

Ten years ago, the japanese were coming to los angeles and buying lowriders for days. Shipping from LA to Japan was $1000. Now, some people are actually buying all the impalas, caprices, etc... that the Japanese took and bringing them back to the states lol.

But seriously, that poor Challenger

sheesh......in about '79 my buddy had a bona fide '70 T/A Challenger (we were like 17) all jacked up with Cragar SS's, N50/15's Pro Tracs out back hangin' out like in the pics, skinnys up front.....he bought it like that.....the six pack was gone when he got it, had a 750 DPer on the 340.....when he sold it he got ahold of a complete correct set of 15" ralley wheels and tires, put them on, reconnected the front sway bar leveled it out and wow we were really impressed how well the car handled.....sorta didnt want to sell it.....it was a blast.

some old guys about twice our age came down from Toronto had mirrors and checked the numbers on the block and trans and bought it for like 5 grand which was big money in those days (I think he payed $4500).....they wernt too happy about the screwed up paint on the fender where my buddy puked on it at 2am and didnt wash it off till the next morning......you cant make this chit up

we often wondered what happened to that car
