I posted a couple months ago about this car and plans have changed drastically and the build has started. Parts are arriving daily by the truck loads it seems. Car is a high dollar build that is being built as the new shop car, but like everything will be for sale once done for the right amount. I am basically trying to one up myself on "Project Shop Beater" that I just sold. This car I plan to keep and enjoy as every 69 Camaro I have owned (6) have only been around a few months at most after being finished. So I am building this one exactly like I want! The body is done, and in primer. We actually purchased this body from Mike's Custom cars in Carolina. When I decided to build another car after finishing "shop beater' I was to busy in my shop with customers to get a car in and redo teh sheetmetal for myself. So I contacted Mike and he ahd this one, so we agreed on a price and got it home. If I ever have another project that requires a complete ground up build, I'll be buying another car from him! He is great to work with and does a damn good job! Car has every new panel available and some that aren't yet. Oh well enough of this crap lets get into the build.
Body:
-All new Sheetmetal, quarters, roof, rockers (inner and outer) floor pans, trunk pans, DSE tubs, tailpanel, firewall, dash, two panels, everything known to man
-Paint will be PPG 5873B Nissan Silver Mist, same color as "Shop Beater" but will be adding a Black Hockey stripe this time
-Shaved handles, and emblem holes
-tailpanel and front grille blacked out
-Stock 69 spoiler
-Chrome bumpers with rear bumper guards
-Marquez complete light package
-DSE headlights
-Full GM RS frontend with DSE conversion
-Prodigy Customs Tinted glass set
-all I can think of right now
Wheels and Tires:
-Intro ID Luxury brand #ID307
-18x8 front with 245/40 Michelins
-20x12 rear with 335/30 Michelins(extensive work being done to tubs and outer wheel houses to tuck these wheels)
Motor/Drivetrain:
-402 LS2 built by Dave Diluca with CDNperf, shooting for 550rwhp!
-Harrop hurrican intake (cause I have been in love since seeing Fuel's, and I just got to have on too)
-ATS motor mounts and other goodies
-ATS stainless headers
-ATS preparred T-56 tranny
-DSE t-56 mount
-Rick's stainless tank with in tank pump
-Mcleod clutch
-ATS oilpan
-Moser Ford 9" 35 spline axles, and Detroit Truetrac
-14" wilwood 6 piston front and 13" 4 piston rear
Suspension:
-DSE front Speed kit 3. upper and lower arms, coilover kit, steering box, tie rods, sway bar, etc
-DSE Quadralink, 4-link
-DSE subframe connectors
-Stock subframe fully welded and some metal added to smooth the lines out a little more
Interior:
-Still up in the air but do know the following
-10 point cage
-4 point harness
-Sparcos or similiar
-MArquez door panels
-DSE dash insert
-Custom center console
-4th gen camaro rear seats
-Full competition ready stereo system
Thats all I can think of right now, I'll continually update this thread weekly or daily as things happen. Debut day for the car is sometime n January!

nice project.......looks like Mike did a bunch of work what kinda dough does that run to basically have him redo a car completely? or is it cheaper to buy a dynacorn repro deal?

Awesome. Never heard of those wheels before, they look great.
Have any pricing info on them?
fletcherscustoms
08-15-2006, 05:36 PM
Yeah whats funny as I can do all this myself, but time and space did not allow it.WE do sheetmetal work all teh time for others, but I had no place for a personal car and try to get it done.So I gave Mike a shot! And boy, Mike does a great job!! That's for sure!! He spends a great amount of time for quality and fitment!! He just went up on his shell prices but you can get a bare shell with doors and trunk lid for the $14K neighborhood and here's the kicker it comes with original VIN,trim tag and title! Can't get that with a Dynacorn shell. And if you supply him a rusty 69 shell that has pretty good internal structure, he'll discount a $1000 from the price.
TonyL:
AS far as the wheels , they run $3600 to your door! Little cheaper for full poilished billet. But I got mine poweder coated center and chromed hoops.

Nothing really going on yet. Customers cars are keeping me away from my project!
Have received the built T56 from Tyler at ATS, and also received alot of other stuff from other vendors on the site. Thanks to all who have helped out so far. If all goes well the subframe will be going on the JIG this weekend to be fully welded up, and some plates welded in to smooth it out.

Its customers that are keeping me from building the car. Current load is crazy for two guys that only get to work in the shop 25 hours a week after they get working 50-60 at the full time day jobs! We got a 04 f-150 that we are building a complete 2" round tube chassis for with airbag suspension and 22" wheels that is taking a lot of time with detailed fab work, and not to mention the 49 Dodge we are doing for another customer that we media blasted this last Saturday to find 42 dents, swiss cheese on half of back cab wall, and a dent with 2 gallons of filler in it in the back cab corner. SO we got two customers that are taking up our time, not to mention the 67 vette coming in soon for quarters and front clip. So Time for "Aftermath" is slim. Hell I got $45K worth of parts and the car is ready to start fab work, jsut no time

Wow not to sure I'll ever do this again, turned out mroe work that I thought it would be , but damn it looks good.
We got the idea from DSE site to weld in plates to smooth out the factory subframe seams. We started be grinding all the old factory bubble gum splattered crap out and completly TIG welding the entire seam top and bottom. Then went back and cut plates to fill the gaps where the seam rolls over. After all them were cut we proceed to do some hammering and shaping to follow the contours of the rails. Tacked them in , shaped a little more, and then proceed to complety TIG them in. Then came the fun part, couple hours grinding, and 5 or so flap discs later. It smooth and shiny again!! As far as it'll go for now until after we get done with mockup, and then we'll lead some pinholes and powdercoat it.

I forgot to add that I have my subframe ready for you guys to modify like yours. Tell you what You can have my subframe and I will come pick up yours. LOL

The motor is estimated to make somewhere between 535 and 575 RWHP with the Harrop intake and the A/C on high!! But will have to wait and see when it goes in the car.
WE only welded areas 6" at a time then moved to the other frame rail, back and fourth between the two. Giving the welds enough time to cool before going back to that area again

No you can not get a body from Dynacorn that would even match the quality that Mike of Mike's Custom Cars produces. Mike did mine a couple years ago. It is on his site under the project list as Mike Workman. He is thorough and meticulous at what he does.

The sub looks good smoothed out but damn what a lot of work!!
fletcherscustoms
12-14-2006, 06:56 AM
Well after a good 30 hours or so of work. The bottom of the subframe is smoothed also. Completly welded entire factory seam, cut filler plates, weld them in, grind for a few days, weld and fix imperfections, grind a few more days, do that a couple times till you get it pretty close. I'll be putting it in primer this week to start the mock up. After car is mocked up it'll come back out, imperfections and stuff will be leaded then powder coated. Not to sure I'll ever do this again!!
Start by welding up factory seam!!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
yep the whole seam!!
