I just got ahold of a pair of turbo's from non-intercooled 3.8L buick T-types (06/08/16 EDIT:I just found out they are off 78-79 301 TTA's). I have been reading alot about fabing a blowthrough setup and I want to know what you guys think of putting theese turbos on a 460" BBC w/ 9.0:1 compression, with a small turbo camshaft(not decided on yet) in a 67 camaro w/ tremec tko 5speed. I am not afraid of the fabrication work at all, but I really dont know if theese turbos will feed the 460" motor. I am not looking for insane power levels, just a streetable 700ish Hp on pump gas(on the cheap...hahaha). anyone care to offer their thoughts.

The sizing is pretty consistent, because the Buicks are 3.8ltrs (241ci) and your's is a 460ci (7.2ltr), so each turbo is handling pretty close to the same displacement as stock. There are a couple differences, such as the Buick turbo is pulsed by 6 cylinders, and each of yours would be pulsed by only 4 bigger ones - the pulses would come less often than with 6, but stock turbos are usually pretty small.

I'd go for it!

I highly recommend Corky Bell's book on turbocharging, "Maximum Boost!". Talks about sizing, sytem layout, etc. all the stuff you will need.

From what i've read on some other forums, those turbos might be a little small. Better suited for a small block. Im thinking they'll run out of steam pretty quickly. Check out this forum, theres a lot of good stuff here... http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/

Also, there is a webgroup called JYturbo on Yahoogroups.com Search the archives there for almost any question and you will come up with a TON of info and even more BS! LOL! But there has been some pretty smart dudes on there along with the normal BS shooters!

Go to this site.

Click on the "twin tuboo 406" page. It's a blow through system that I am building for a friend of mine, so you might be interested.

Your 460 should really run. Go for it, I would.

Run 'em! Oh and the toohighpsi website is the way to go for junkyard builds. My friend Eric's Mustang is on that site and it would blow your mind some of the stuff that those guys have done with turbos.

I'd say those turbos are a little on the small side.....but it really depends on what you want? Big HP & lag or less HP & almost instant boost.

Primarily decide what you want then see if the turbos fit in.

Turbomustangs is a GREAT site with LOTS of info.
