Hello all,

I have an 87 Buick Regal Turbo T with a bit of engine work done to it, so I guess it is time to attack the suspension, which is stock. I do have 17x8.5 (front) and 17x9 (rears) Simmons wheels on it. I also have 13 inch Baer Brakes on the front. I am looking for some free advice regarding brakes/suspension.

1. Will the rear disc brakes from a mid 90's Caprice cop car (RPO 9C1 I believe) bolt up to my 8.5 inch rear end without to much modification?

2. This is the second car I have had these rims/tires on (both Regals). The cars have both tended to "wander" in the traffic grooves on the road with the 17's, but seemed to be okay with the 15s on them. So I don't end up replacing every single front end bushing/component/rag joint, I am open to all suggestions as to what to look for. I have never really messed with suspensions, but I am willing to learn.

3. I have recently became interested in the Air Ride Technology suspension for my car: e.g., the "Level Pro" system with the Cool Ride air suspension components. I only know what I have read on the Air Ride website and an article in Popular Hot Rodding. Are these systems good/bad/etc.? I like th option of being able to go low but still go higher if need be.

Okay, my goals would probably be nice to know...I like cruising, with an occasion quarter mile blast and an occasional canyon carve. Also, my car has 47,000 miles on it. The car is an occasional driver only.

Thanks, Rob

The 9C1 brakes are 5 on 5" bolt pattern, and your car has 5 on 4.75"

...I don't know if they'll fit, but redrilling the rotors would definitely be necessary.

Don't worry about the bit of "wander" you experience. It has been adressed before that since most cars have skinnier tires than us, they wear finite grooves in the road surface. This acts like a track that wider tires try to follow, but never really can.

Thanks, Rob I put rear discs on my 7.5" g-body rear from www.speedwaymotors.com (http://www.speedwaymotors.com). I believe they sell a kit for a standard 8.5" gm 10 bolt as well. I also have some air ride technologies cool ride install pics You can look at www.cardomain.com/ride/2052251/1 (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2052251/1) The cool ride system seems to work pretty good for raising the car up and down, but I think your money would be better spent on the shockwave kit for improved cornering capabilities(more adjustable). If you need anymore info on the cool ride system send me a private message. You won't find to many fans of the air ride systems on this site. Later
