well i just got my clutch and tranny assembly in the car (67 camaro) and as soon as i atempted to get the cross member in i noticed the mounting holes in the cross member are too far to the drivers side to line up with the mounting point on my muncie transmition. when i try to move the tranny over to line every thing up my shift linkage hits the tunnle. i also noticed that my clutch fork hits my floor boards right at the corner where the floor, fire wall, and tranny tunle meet. what could possibly be the cause of this? at first i thought the mounts were to far back but theres plenty of room behind the distributer and its an HEI wich is bigger than stock any way. im running a lakewood bell housing and a jegs clutch fork but these are the same dimentions as stock. im using stock motor mounts on the frame and on the block. is it possible that i have the wrong mounts bolted to the frame? what ells could it be. im super frustrated so let me know if any thing im saying isnt making sence.

Rob, are you running a big-block? I had this same problem with my '70 Nova when I was using Small-Block FRAME mounts with a Big-Block. The correct BB frame mounts move the motor toward the passenger side about 1.5" and forward about 1".

If not, I'm not sure how far off the mouting holes are, but when I installed my new frame mounts I had to leave the mounting bolts loose in order to move the tailshaft over a little. Then and only then would the mount holes would line up with the crossmember holes.

L6 frame mounts will mis-locate a SB, just as SB frame mounts do to a BB. Sounds like you'll need to get SB frame mounts to get everything lined up. Year-One, Classic Industries, The Paddock all carry frame mounts for 1st-gen Camaros. I've even seen some on eBay. My vendor of choice is Classic Muscle, they're usually cheaper than the big parts houses, have fast delivery and good customer service (http://www.oldmusclecars.com/).

Yes, there are 6 different lengths of GM T/O bearings. Here's a GREAT page on clutches/flywheels/bearings/forks/etc, that lists the dimensions and part #s of all six. Specifically, go to the section entitled "GM Clutch Release Bearings". This page is Jeep related, but I found it very useful and applicable when installing my Tremec in my '70 Nova.

Does that motor mount look right? is it suposed to hang of the edge of the frame like that or do i have them back wards?

The frame mounts are different heights and the TALLER mount goes on the DRIVER'S side. Did you install yours that way?

I can't say for sure if the mount is supposed to hang over the frame like that. I can't remember if my Nova's mount did that or not. I'll take a look tonight and snap some pics as well.

Maybe some of the BB Camaro guys on the list will chime in as well.

Rob, Here are some pics of my frame mounts. I don't know it they'll be of much help, but it does show that the mount hangs over the frame like yours.

BB trans crossmembers have the mount holes offset to the passenger side 1". check for that, SB should be on-center.
