Does any one remember and/or have any info regarding the 200 MPH Mustang Car Craft magazine did back in the early 90's? I was thinking about it the other day and I can't find anything anywhere. From what I remember, it was a red Cobra with a Vortech? and some ignition work as well. Nowadays it would seem a low(er) buck way to possibly get to 200 mph. Thanks.

IIRC, it was a 93 Cobra, with a Duttweiler built 347 running a whole bunch of boost, controlled by an ACCEL DFI system. Baer brakes? Switched down to 2.73 gears, and ran the rpm really high in 4th gear I think.

I kinda remember it, I want to say they ran a Capri bubble hatch for better aerodynamics?

Don't think so. I seem to recall some clear tape to take up the space between the hatch, and the raised rear spoiler that came on the 93 Cobra (sort of early 90s IROC Camaro style).

I'm kinda bummed, I don't remember this car at all!! And that's really weird because if I don't get a mag at home, I'm flipping through it on the newsstands!

By the by, you're a little quick with the sarcasm there scoggy.

I believe that Mustang was built by JBA, J. Bittle American. It had a sweet widebody kit that I lusted for but the kit never made production. It used a Capri hatch which was more aerodynamic. This had to be in 89 or 90, since I got rid of my 89 5 point slow in 91.

baer brakes, vortech blower, red 92 made to look like 93 cobra if i remember correctly. they taped up the front end for better air flow
"Prepared the chassis, brakes, and safety equipment for Car Craft magazine´s "Project 200 Mustang." from baer's site but no pictures

I remember it - they had to run a cog belt drive on the centrifugal because it kept chewing up belts...and it still chewed up the cog belt, but they touched 200.

John Baechtel had a lot to do with that one.

This is kind of an old thread, but I think this is the car? It's for sale as a roller south of Houston TX. http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=321441

I saw the car at the Winternationals back in the early nineties (it was on display). I didn't take any pictures I'm afraid. I remember they didn't use the GT back valance as it created more drag, but the car in the picture has a GT valance and a GT front end. The magazine car had a Cobra front end. But it was a long time ago and I suppose they could have swapped front and rear bumper covers.................

Thanks for looking that one up, but i don't think that is the car. It was a Cobra and ran the Cobra rims if I remember correctly.

I'm pretty sure it was a cobra; did you want current info, or are you looking for the original issues? if I can get up there, I remember seeing them in my attic...

If you've got the original issues that would be sweet. I would like to know what happened to the car, but the chances of that are going to be pretty slim.
