Many people have some type of alarm on their daily drivers. What about your toys? With the demand of our cars going through the roof, theft is becoming more rampant. Anyone got an aftermarket alarm with GPS tracking? I have been looking and it got me wondering.

If it is offered in your area I highly recomend Lo-Jack.

I used to have them. Now I don't bother. Around here no one pays attention to a car alarm going off....
I may as well save that $$$ and put lo-jack if I were to do anything.
Kill switches work better IMO.....:twothumbs

We put master disconnects on all our cars. The 69 has an alarm as well. If someone really wants to take it nothing is going to stop them...

My car's real well known around here. If anyone steals it, they will be hunted down, found, and flayed alive. Then, their entire family history will be erased--even the pet goldfish. :jump:
Also, I have stickers on the car that say: "Please don't touch"

I started looking into the GPS thing. Some of the systems are neat. If the car moves a few feet froma 'safe zone', say your garage, you will get a email & phone call of some sort (automated, I might suppose). Plus live tracking, very batmobilish, you can chase the bad guys.

Alarm, kill switch and looking at Lo-Jack. I don't ever want that sinking feeling.

Which systems are you looking at? I can't find much info on these...

My notes are at home, I'll get back on this. I know auto-electronic giant DEI has a new system out.
There was another system sold by a group out od CO called Auto-Pros that looked promising/similar.

Yeah.....but you can make it a pain in the ass for them. Most thieves will pass on a car if it looks like too much work. Most cars that are stolen are staked out first, rarely are they spontaneously taken. They like to know what they're getting into before pulling a job. If it takes them more than 1 minute to steal, they are most likely to abandon it and move on to something else.
For a classic car you could pull your coil wire, lock your hood, cleverly hidden kill switch to battery, car alarm, Club, Brake pedal club, and finally Lo-Jack (I know that's excessive, but we're talking for a car that is rarely driven somewhere and parked unattended for long periods of time). No way your pulling that job in under 1 minute. And with a car alarm going off the whole time....not worth the trouble.
But of course they could always tow it away.....if they wanted it bad enough. But then that's where your Lo-Jack comes into play. And I would never advertise that my car has Lo-Jack either.

^ Also a quick release steering wheel...leave the wheels at full lock and take that sucker with you.
